Does anyone know if Spearhead is available outside the U.S.?
I'm trying to buy it if only I could get it somewhere.
I've been looking in Apple shops all over the city I live in and the Apple store online doesn't even show it exept the U.S. site.

Spearhead has not yet being released.
Pre-order it from Aspyr.com.

Nope, it's shipped. I checked it last Saturday at aspyr.com and it was in duplication, they announced Monday it was shipping. First game on my list, next is SimCity 4.

For some reason, they've gone back to saying that it's only in duplication.

I just got an email from Aspyr saying they shipped my copy of Spearhead. Looks like we can all expect our copies soon.

It never changed actually, it was changed to Duplication and has been there ever since. I'm hopeful it'll start showing up this week sometime, they put out the press release saying it was shipping here:

I picked mine up this morning at my local CompUSA. Been checking it everyday since Monday and went over as soon as I saw they had it in stock.
Seems like a great game so far, the first couple of missions are a bit frustrating since you need to protect the others on your team. It'd be a bit easier if they weren't trying to get themselves killed. LOL It's like an escort mission but they're armed and stupid.

Thanks for the tip. I checked compusa.com and sure enough, it's in stock locally, so I went and got it. I haven't even installed it yet, but that's next on my list.

Drags quite a bit with heavy action. I'm on a dual 867 with 768 megs of RAM and a Radeon 9000.
I'll have to tweak the settings a bit, I'm pushing things a bit as it is. I've only had one level (the chase scene after raiding the supply depot) where things REALLY drag. Other than that, it's good at 1024/768.

I've had the same experience with fairly similar specs. It also drags pretty badly during and after using the artillery on the first level of Normandy. I got around it by not using the artillery--then the problem didn't crop up. Otherwise running smoothly at 1280.

Ah, you might want to try cutting back some of the effects. I've tried to max out the settings as much as I can and on the original MOH nearly everything goes to Max with no problems. A crash or two has really been it.
I'm still playing with the Spearhead settings a bit. Is the artillery scene the one where you take out the tank with the 88? Or where you use the anti-aircraft gun to take out the half track? I don't recall getting any lag from either of those I don't think.

Yeah, after the first time I encountered lag I brought all my settings way down and then brought each one up, one by one to see which slowed things down noticeably. Some of my settings are high, some are medium (but they were all medium or low the first time I got the lag). The game plays fast, doesn't crash and doesn't lag as long as I avoid that one part... yes, I mean the part where you use the anti-aircraft gun against the truck. If I use the gun, then the game lags ever after. If I don't, then I have no problems.
But I haven't had a lot of time to play and haven't gotten very far yet, so I'm a little worried it will happen again.

hey, got my copy last night. It runs HORRIBLY on my DUAL 1.42 with 1.5gb of RAM. I only did the first 2 missions but that was all i could stand. I turned the graphics down and the play was better, but i mean come on, a dual 1.42 and its still choppy? My advice is to stick with Allied Assault until they attempt an update.

WTF? Are you serious? If you can't get that game to run decently on a Dual 1.42, there is something wrong with your system.

thurstonwhore I'm guessing that you're running the stock Radeon 9000? When it comes to games, ALL of those components need to be consistent so to speak. Having fast processors will offset things a bit but you need a good video card to fully utilize those processors, GeForce 4 Ti or Radeon 9700/9800 are the only options unfortunately. ATi, Nvidia, someone needs to put out a low cost 128MB card and not the high end, ones. The 64 in the Radeon 9000 is good but isn't quite what is necesary.

Maybe so, but that doesn't excuse the poor performance. Makes you wonder if Aspyr only uses product testers with souped-up machines. I can imagine that most hardcore enthusiasts would not settle for the kind of average joe specs that most of us have.

Well there's only so much that can be done. The Radeon 9000s performance is a bit less than the Radeon 8500s, so with a dual 1.4 machine it's very possible it's a bottleneck.
Even on here, I was hoping to squeeze out just a bit more performance with the 9000 (I just kept the stock GeForce 4 MX with 32MB of VRAM originally) and it's better but could be better. GeForce 4 Ti or 97/9800 are the only good options at the moment. I don't know if the fault lies with Apple and the hardware design, OS X, the drivers, the gaming companies or if it's a combination.

well, i'm about 99% positive that nothing is wrong with my computer. Every other game i have runs amazingly. I also bought Dungeon Seige with the same purchase and it runs flawless. Even Allied Assault runs better, i think the game just needs an update, because the graphics look amazing even turned to about moderate level. But even playing online it seems to be alot more choppy than MOHAA, enough of a performance issue for differentiate between the two. I also tried it on my 1ghz titanium with 1gb ram and it plays exactly the same as on the dual 1.42. Hopefully they can crank out an update soon.

on a seven hundred megahertz emac with seven sixty eight ram the game plays absolutely wonderfully...
of course, it didn't at first; I have to boot with OS 9.2.2 and then I can play every game I've tried, often the 'newest' games many with nearly max settings.
I don't know if anyone else is willing to do this, but when I'm sitting down to multiplay in UT2003 or MOHAA it's usually for a couple hours; thus not too big a deal to boot into another os.
