This is what you get when you don't update your drivers for OS X.

Well, I enjoyed the brief glimpse of the "media" person.

Why won't UMAX stick a guy in a room, pay him some money, and port the drivers for these scanners to Mac OS X?

Is it still so difficult to create drivers for Mac OS X?

And can Mac OS X interface with SCSI devices? Or is my UMAX Astra 1200s totally out of luck?

I thought it was pretty funny. I have to laugh too because the graphics job that fired me a few months ago only had UMAX scanners. Very expensive ones also. They were "looking into" going to OSX full-time when I got the can.

But seriously, how hard is it to make drivers for OSX? Any company that manufactures scanners has to realize that the Mac is still the platform of choice for most graphics pro's. A high-end scanner is generally a graphics tool. The low end crap is for scanning pics of your dog or whatever.

Schools don't want your old crap. They need new hardware and up to date software.

I own three old UMAX scanners. They have all died of natural causes long before they should have. None of them even lasted 2 years. I haven't put them in the dupster yet, because I'm lazy, but that movie is giving me ideas...

Well look at the dudes in that movie, their appearances all suck, because of their geekiness . Why not a countermovie of starving or football sewing children mirroring the wasting of a petty UMAX scanner that didn't have the appropriate drivers

i wish Canon would do the same, they seem to have a very strange view on driver support for X. They either do, or they don't.

Sure. Fine. But the point is that the scanners could have gone to use somewhere, even in a (gasp) non OS X installation.

My 1200s is working fine on OSX. I'm using VueScan. No problems at all. Plus VueScan is updated quite often.

Oh God, YES! Comic Sans is the font of the devil. It's only used by people who have no business usng fonts in the first place. Mistral needs to die a painful death as well.

And did they really need a 4 second pause every 6 seconds so they could fade their text in and out?

Had Umax told me my scanner was going to be a very expensive paperweight with OSX, I would have gladly donated all that money to charity.

Umax does have OSX drivers, try the GB site.

Not to mention SilverFast will run them just fine.
Ewwww, don't touch it. Here,

Can't help you there-- I'm still busy rooting out the last pockets of Remedy Double Extras users. After that, I've got to get straightaway on destroying all traces of Brush Script.

How is this any different than making a Macquarium? If you purchase something, you have the right to do whatever the hell you want with it (barring anything illegal of course).
