Mine is already in the UPS system and is due to arrive sometime soon. I'm not sure if UPS will delivery it on a Sat. so maybe it will come Monday.

I ordered a 12" with 768megs of ram.

The case, monitor, apple care and wireless keyboard and mouse should be here today and Thursday.

I read elsewhere on this site that the 12" do not come with a backlit keyboard. On the order form it says "BckLt / English Keyboard" so maybe it does??

I'm excited to be returning back to the world of Macintosh after a long break!

^^^ That is strange indeed! If your 12" shows up w/ a Backlit keyboard you should throw it on eBay ASAP as a rare prototype and score bigtime.

Here's what it says - I copied it:

BkLit Keyboard/Mac OS

Does that mean Back-Lit? It's probably just what they put for all Powerbooks 12" and up, regardless of whether it's actually Backlit.

Nah, I checked the press release and it says:

Apples revolutionary backlit keyboard with ambient light sensors for working in low-light conditions is now built in to all 15- and 17-inch PowerBooks and is up to 10 times brighter than before.

It would be nice to see backlit keyboards on these 12" models, but I doubt Apple would miss the opportunity to advertise it.

And if these people actually do get backlit keyboards by mistake and they work, then it'll be pretty obvious that Apple is limiting this feature to push people to higher models.

was anyone else able to choose a faster shipping method than the free standard shipping.

Got an answer:

Your Powerbook will be shipping from one of our overseas warehouses. All products shipped from overseas are shipped via three-business-day international service. Overnight shipping is not available on products shipped from overseas.

First mac, just ordered today:

17"/1.67 GHz/80GB/512 MB RAM
+ a 1GB stick, Kingston from Outpost

Shipping on or before 2/9/04

The case ships on or before 2/4/04.
Think the case will get lonely?

Question:
"Country Kit/Airport Extreme"
Country kit? huh?

I switched from a 800MHz Dell with 128 MB RAM. This will be an interesting jump of 800+ MHz (i know they're not comparable, but it makes the case even stronger) and 6x the amount of RAM. +2" inches of screen, too.

But most of all, I'm going to miss the wonderful Dell tech support, and their lovely all-too-familiar elevator hold music.

I count T-7 days until I'm PC free.

I assume mine is on or before the 7th for a 15" fully loaded, aside from the 512 of ram. I ordered through the school, along with the 23" display, so the ac would cover both. I need to check with the guy who ordered...

^^^ You purchased RAM from Apple? Wow....
Brutal, huh? For the first time, actually, but there were extenuating circumstances.

1. It's an EDU purchase and I need it ASAP for an upcoming trip.
2. Since it's purchased via a university we have a limited number of memory vendors that we can purchase from, and since Apple's memory prices have improved of late, the price difference between outside RAM and the extra 1 GB from Apple was about $100.

Figured we saved that $100 by not buying 3 weeks ago (when I first needed it).

It did feel *wrong* though!

Your RAM purchase makes sense then...look I bought a Rev. A 17" PB w/ my ADC discount awhile back and purchased the RAM upgrade since it was my first Apple and the ADC discount is HUGE. With my latest Mac, my iMac G5, I got my extra RAM from Coastmemory.com. ENJOY your PB!

If I remember correctly, don't these things get stuck at customs for a few days? I seem to remember this happening after every product revision.

Strange, my web traffic was mostly directed at macnn and apple a few days ago.. now I feel like if I refresh fedex enough, it'll move faster

Today's update shows that my Ultimate CTO has shipped. Still no FedEx recognition so it's probably leaving today. Probably will get it by the 7th. Can't wait.

Checked out the trackpad scrolling the the Apple stores and it's really exciting. Just scrolling through a finder window with ease, makes nav so much more fluid.

I just checked - mine still hasn't shipped. Jeez, what's the deal? I only added a silly SIMM module to the base configuration.

And the new bag I ordered last night which the Apple store listed as "1 - 2 days" now shows as shipping "On or before 2/7" also.

Man, what's the holdup?
