Eh, why not? Post your E3 updates and thoughts here, why-don-cha.
It looks like there are already some new details at 1-UP on a new Ninja Gaiden game and another named Okami. Besides that, I haven't seen anything new yet at the current moment, but it's comin'...

A bunch of my friends are going, and I'm jealous. The best way to get tickets is to beg your friends for them. That's my plan for next year.

The Sony conference is happening now I think:

Seems to be the most up to to date for me - Engadget has fallen off the planet.

Sweet.... I am looking forward to comparison...
Just becasue I hate M$, I was wishing that the PS3 will remain strong against the XBox 360. I like the xbox at this time due to its graphics power, but I would still like to see the PS3 pull way ahead of MS.

PlayStation 3 announced for 2006
Sony confirms the name and release window of its next-generation console in Los Angeles, will use Blu-ray disc format.
LOS ANGELES--Today saw the second of the big three console makers announce their next-generation platform. At its pre-E3 press conference, Sony Computer Entertainment gave the world its first look at the PlayStation 3, as it now is officially called.
The name was not unexpected, since Sony had been running an extensive teaser-ad campaign prepping the public for the PlayStation 3. The company had laid a blanket of posters around the Los Angeles Convention Center, site of the Electronic Entertainment Expo (aka E3). Bus stalls and billboards around the convention center proclaimed "Prepare for Chang3" in the distinctive PlayStation font with partial shots of the Dual Shock controller's square-circle-triangle-X buttons.
Sony also confirmed the PlayStation 3, will use Blu-Ray discs as its media format. The discs can hold up to six times as much data as current-generation DVDs. It will also support CR-ROM, CDR+W, DVD, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD+R formats. It also confirmed the machine would be backward-compatible all the way to the original PlayStation. It will also have slots for Memory Stick Duo, a SD slot, and a compact flash memory slot. It will also sport a slot for detachable 2.5 inch HDD somewhat similar the Xbox 360's.
Out of the box, the PS3 will have the capability to support seven Bluetooth controllers. It will also have six USB slots for peripherals--four up front and two in the back.
Sony also laid out the technical specs of the device. The PlayStation 3 will feature the much-vaunted Cell processor, which will run at 3.2 Ghz and feature 2.18 teraflops of performance. It will sport 256mb XDR main RAM at 3.2 Ghz, and have 256MB of GDDR VRAM at 700mhz.
Sony also unveiled the PS3's graphics chip, the RSX "Reality Synthesizer based on Nvidia technology. The GPU will be capable of 128bit pixel precision, 1080p resolution, some of the highest HD resolution around. It also has over 300 million transistors lager than any processor available commercially today. It was manufactured using the 90nm process with 8 layers of metal. The RSX is more powerful than two GeForce 6800 ultras, which would cost rough $1000 if bought today.
The PlayStation 3 will also sport some hefty multimedia features, such as video chat, internet access, digital photo viewing, digital audio and video. Sony Computer Entertainment head Ken Kutaragi introduced it as a "Super computer for computer entertainment."

Well, from the hype there's been around the Cell processor, I'd say that the PS3 should be even more unfathomably powerful than the lightweight Xbox 360. I've also heard a rumor that said the Revolution would be slightly less powerful than the PS3, rather than being slightly more powerful than 360. We'll see how the decks are stacked by Tuesday, though, so I'd take this ramble with a grain of salt.
[Edit] (@ Agasthya's post) Whoa. Start running, Microsoft. Looks like you've lost the arms race...

Bluetooth - Score! I secretly hoped that they would use it - I never thought they would actually do it though. (and be sensible enough to use a non-Sony standard - it bodes well.)

Ya nice try with that graphic, remember how the PS2 was supposed to be Toy Story Graphics in real time.
When did they get their hands on a final Xbox 360 to benchmark it?

The black one really is stunning. I assume it can also sit on the side. Why is vertical so popular all of a sudden?

Judging by the color schemes and designs of that PS3 image and the Xbox 360, Nintendo should/will have an easy time pleasing the crowd with, among other things, a unique and innovative console design. Wow...I mean, just...wow. Apparently those 2 consoles are the new kitchen accessory - silver, slabby, large, and boring. Oh well, I guess it's what's on the inside that counts, hmm?

Ya everyone uses that handle on the cube all the time, and they love the fact that you can't put it on a shelf because of the top loading.

Need I remind you that we're talking about a new generation of consoles? Nintendo's stated that they've made [design] mistakes; at least they can move on. [Addition: Reggie, in an interview, even admitted that the GameCube was "not sexy." ] Microsoft and Sony, on the other hand, are still clinging to their console's names for blind lemming brand identity. That's what's in a name - change or lack thereof.

Ya the Xbox and PS2 are doing very well so I don't know what they need to fix.
Oh and Nintendo said they learnt their lessons with the N64, then made things worse with the cube.
We are not turning this into a Nintendo Rox thread until they show the revolution and it kicks ass.

Looking at the back pic. It has 2 HDMI outputs? Both labeled "out" and..... I'm guessing 1 modem, but then 2 Ethernet jacks? Makes no sense.... Nice to see old school AV output connector tho.
Also, if it's backwards compat. How do I plug in my old memory cards?

Since the PS2 network adapter in Europe was released without a modem port - I doubt they are putting a modem port in the PS3.
It looks very much like three Ethernet ports - perhaps for high-speed Cell interconnects?
[edit]
Press Release text here:
http://www.idiottoys.com/2005/05/pla....html#comments
They are ethernet ports - and Gigabit ethernet too. (hmm - Input x1 Output x2)
[edit]
oh noes - the controllers are hideous and look like they might cause RSI just by touching them:

Wow, that controller is terrible. The basic layout is not much different than the PS2 controller (which was just a PS1 Dual Analog controller). I realize that keeping a familiar controller is important for its backwards compatibility (2 generations of games that rely on that layout) but I was really hoping they would do something more like the Xbox Controller-S (swap the d-pad and left analog stick positions, make the analog sticks better for thumbs by changing the tops, and make them less sensitive) so the PS3 could have a shot at being good for FPS games. The design of the controller is really as important as any GPU or CPU. I would argue it's the reason why the PS2 and GC suck for FPS games. A bad controller is the reason why Metroid' lacks efficient strafing (having to lock-on to something sucks, especially when moving about an empty room). And I am going to say this is the reason why the PS3 will never have a good "Halo-killer" or any FPS game that I will care to play.

So? Does it have to be a FPS to be a huge hit? The sims sells more than any other game, think about that.

Well, I see Sony is showing off their knack for aesthetics yet again...
Anyways, the specs are extrordinarily impressive. The all-around package is better than I thought it was going to be. The next generation of console gaming is shaping up to look like it will be very rewarding.

I'm looking forward to seeing better pictures of the PS3 before I decide whether or not I like the design. It would be cool if they release it in black, it just looks off in the white colour. DC was the only system that I liked in white.
Also it's a shame that Square isn't going to make their FFVII demo into a re-make for the PS3. I can tell you that of all Square games, this one has the biggest following and is the most cherished. I would love to play it all over again on PS3!
I can't wait to see what Nintendo has up it's sleeves. They wen't from "cool" (N64) to "lame" (GC), so my expectations aren't very high. But if one thing is for sure, Nintendo is always full of surprises - we'll just have to wait and see - and pray....

same here. it's minimalistic and simple, but also lacking personality imo. And yes it does look better than the XBox. Nice work overall, both technically and asthetically. any word on the dimensions of the thing.
