Hi all,

there seems to be a conflicting recommendation and warning of firewire enclosure esp. for firewire 800. On one hand it is recommended that firewire 400 and 800 should be Oxford chipset 911 and 922 in order to gain optimal performance. On the other hand, there was a huge issue with Firewire 800 in regards to 922 chipset mostly in concern with loss of data and not being able to see the hard drive on Panther. I am not sure whether this problem exists on Tiger or not. Any info on how this issue is resolved, much appreciated. I am seeking out a SATA enclosure with firewire 400 and firewire 800 and USB2 ports. I do have 2 macs that run on 10.3+ and upgrade to tiger will only be the last option.

thanks.

If I recall correctly, that problem was fixed in 10.3.1 and hasn't recurred.

Also FYI I believe 912 is the latest/greatest Oxford FW400/800 chipset.

Hi mduell,
thanks for the info. I am looking out for this model, IceCube Gen2 SATA HD enclosure. It has 2 firewire port, and it states the Chipset Bridge is Oxford 924 DSB.

I gather that Oxford 924 DSB must be the latest Chipset.

Yea, the 924 adds (e)SATA to the FW400/FW800/USB2 mix.
