Back in the day of middle school and early high school, my Dad really got me into model building. I usually built world war II airplanes, and somewhere in my parent's basement, in a box, there are a bunch of them crunched up in jagged pieces of painted plastic.
Anyway, I've recently been addicted to Sid Meir's Pirates and have now become fascinated with the idea of building a scale wooden ship model. Its been about a decade since I've last touched a kit, and I don't even think I have the time right now, but some of these things are downright cool!

Have any of you gotten into the hobby at one point, or might consider picking it up again? What kind of models did y'all build?
Post Pics if you got em!

Yeah, I used to be into it. I built mostly military jets. My dad brother and I also built an intricate HO scale model railroad kit.
My dad was also into it and still has all of his models from when he was a kid. His are all race cars from the 50s and 60s. Sadly I don't think anything I made survived.
EDIT...
Here you go, this pic is totally 80's awesome. I'm on the left...

Nitro or electric R/C?
I was about to plunge back into my RC modeling days. Thought I could get my 10 year old kyosho truck up and running again but it seems like technology has left us to bite the dust. Might buy a new HPI at some point. These things have become fast!

Electric. Do a search on youtube for "Tamiya Knight Hauler" and you might find the video.

Tons and tons and tons. Mostly Tamiya.
That stopped when I graduated high school and moved away from japan.
Never got into wood or metal. Alien substances, those. They won't glue properly, they don't take to paint, and worst of all, you can't just melt your own if the kit is missing a detail.

^^ that camera effect is so deceiving sometimes, that thing is what, 6" long?
It looks like a micro-machine with that limited of field depth.

Just got back into it after 20 years, and this is the result:
It's a 1/35 Italeri "Commando Car" with no aftermarket upgrades. Currently working on a Dragon Models Hetzer and several other tanks.

This picture should give you a better perspective.

I'd like to get into military stuff, but I am pretty ignorant about all of it. I guess I should just hop on amazon, pick something and build it. Probably a Jeep-type vehicle.

He won't find any droids in the engine compartment - too cramped.

I bit the bullet and found a Tamiya Jeep I liked. This was built over a few days.
This is the Tamiy Jeep Willys MB 1/4-ton 4x4 Truck 1/35th scale model kit. I still need to apply the decals and finish up the driver figure that is included.

The next logical step would be to arm it.
And a on-board HD camera so that the controller can see from the cockpit in real-time.
That thing goes at about 200mph... i wonder how many seconds would it take to fly out of its RC radius...
