I just saw Leatherheads today. I really enjoyed it, very funny and it actually had a semi-decent plot for being almost a comedy. Anyone else go see it yet? It was a bit odd seeing Clooney getting down and dirty playing football in the mud, but he and Renee did a great job acting, as I expected.

It's supposed to be a comedy. If it's almost funny and almost has a plot, it doesn't sound good.

I've heard mixed reviews, but I'll see it. I've got this man crush on Clooney, see.

I get the opposite - once an actor/actress has been in 5 or 6 things, I don't want to see them in anything else ever. I get too caught up in the similarities to previous roles that it breaks the whole fantasy world for me. Tom Hanks is Tom Hanks. Clooney is Clooney. Harrison Ford is Harrison Ford. Rare is the actor that can portray truly different roles with different mannerisms.

That's a good point wallinbl, especially Harrison Ford and also Tom Cruise. I think when we see a movie with a famous actor/actress who has been in a ton of movies we think of the actor as being the character itself and we overlook the character's qualities. But it's still a good movie anyway.

I think some of the best actors that don't have any distinct mannerisms and can be totally different in different movies are Denzel Washington, Daniel Day Lewis, and Kate Blanchett.

That's kind of the definition of "acting", you know.

I saw Leatherheads last night and really enjoyed it.
I had caught a glimpse of the trailer, but not the entire thing. I didn't realize it was going to be as funny as it was. I was expecting something more serious, in the lines of an old football movie, not an old football movie comedy.

What would Art Donovan say about this movie?

Saw it last night. Entertaining, but probably too long. Zellweger was fun, and Clooney acquitted himself OK. Wished there had been more witty banter and less escapades, though.

Ha ha, I did really enjoy the banter between Zellweger and Clooney. I was laughing the whole time.

Of course, the flip side of that coin is those that can, like Gary Oldman, hardly ever receive the same recognition.

That's because you're remembering the character and not the actor. Too bad that most people seem to want to remember the actor.

I'm not that way with too many actors, but there are definitely a few of them that I can't stand to see in any more movies.

Denzel Washington is on the very tippy-top of my list as someone that I cannot stand to watch in another movie. If a new movie comes out and has him in it, I automatically mark that off the list of movies to see. I enjoyed him in his first three or four movies, but I don't want to see him in anything else. Ever.
