Seriously. The lounge barely moves anymore. There's like 3 days of topics on the first page.

Sad times. Is it the weak dollar? Or could it be poor moderation banning people with personality? Or maybe people just don't care?

The mods have become Maoist.

People just get tired and leave. Who wants to live in a virtual censored prison.

When a slave-owner strikes a male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies immediately, the owner shall be punished. But if the slave survives for a day or two, there is no punishment; for the slave is the ownerā€™s property.

We can't change people, but maybe we can change the policies and thus the attitudes of the moderators. This place is highly constrained... warnings are given out for the most ridiculous things. It is hard to say things sometimes and threads get shut down, people with lots of experience get banned...

But I don't see any of that changing now, because MacNN wants to keep up the economy... so they have to cap our "free speech" with what looks to be unconstitutional policies and practices. Maybe it will take someone or a class action suit against their policies to smarten them up.

I'm thinking of a couple of members from the past that have been banned. Do you folks really miss them? Seriously. This complaint resurfaces every couple of months and it's not really clear whether they are truly missed or not. Banning seems to be more or less designed to filter out disgruntled 13 year olds.

Now, what should be done is to remove the ignore option. Who joins a forum, then starts putting people on 'ignore'? I mean, do you really need a "feature" to ignore someone? That makes about as much sense as a snooze button on an alarm clock IMO.

While cash comes in here and says how this place has gone downhill and its dead, etc (why then does he keep coming back?) I do believe he does have a point this time This place has slowed down, my opinion is that there's a couple of reasons:
First its summer and many people are more interested in doing activities other then sitting at a computer.
Second, we have lost some members either through banning, or just plain leaving. Those people were posting a lot (regardless of the quality) in the lounge.

While I may not be a heavy hitter, my usage here has trailed off this summer. I pop in from time to time but I've been posting less in the lounge because there is less to threads that interest me.

Alright, I'm out of terms, you bastard, but for the record, I protest this defeat on the grounds that you were alive back when said terms were still in common use.

Edit: Also, I've never heard rumpus used. Anywhere.

Agreed. Is the lounge really in a state of despair because two or three people aren't here? I'd much prefer a "dead" lounge over one filled with pointless, pedantic arguments and complaining, which is all I remember getting from a couple of the currently banned members.

You know how I feel about the rules, but why should MacNN guarantee free speech? They are a business, they need to do what makes sense for them as a business... I think part of the problem is that people don't understand that, as it hasn't been made clear why this forum even exists.

It's late summer, and people are actually out doing things instead of huddling in front of their computers complaining that they can't go out and do things... I think this happens to one extent or another every year.

And as to the mods "censoring" posts and threads, we have a responsibility to keep things civil, and we work hard at that. If your idea of civil is to call people names and throw virtual poo everywhere, then you're likely to think we're oppressive. If, on the other hand, you think that being civil means that you can voice your opinion without having people act like five-year-olds and call you names, or act like emo teens and call you other names, or worse, have people act like their opinions are God-given fact, then you'll feel right at home most of the time.

[Glenn's Personal Opinion] YMMV, but I think the Lounge has been quiet because the drama queens got tired of having their acts spoiled when nobody cooperated with the drama. Sure, it's not as dramatic, but is drama always a good thing?[/Glenn]

Sorry, but in other words: the Lounge becomes boring as hell.

These, days, were you will get banned w/o warning for using special characters instead of a swear word, what do you expect ? Moderation in general (not yours in particular) has become near fascist. Yeah, keeping it real nice and clean.

No one is censoring you now. In your nearly 1000 posts, I found only two that were deleted (one by accident, it appears).

However, a censorship or general moderation policy discussion is best suited for Feedback.
