I bought American McGee's "Alice" as the first game for my dual G4 800 Quicksilver back in late 2001. Great game. Shelved it and now want to finish it. Installed it on my dual G5 2.5 w/ GeForce 6800 Ultra. It's an OS X game and I got the latest version, v1.1.1, from VT.

These are the listed improvements in this ver:

a. Texture Compression
b. Anisotropic Filtering
c. Full-Screen Anti-aliasing (FSAA)
d. Widescreen Monitor support
e. Checking e-mail while playing the game

...after installing it defaulted to a 640x480 mode, but it was full, widescreen on my 20" Cinema. Quite the jagged image. Any attempt to select a higher res jumps back to a 4:3 ration that does noit take the fullscreen. Using 1280x1024 is the best I can do on this 1680x1050 native screen. Is there a way to get native fullscreen at high res, wide?

Thanks!

To respond to myself...

I e-mailed Brad Oliver who worked the conversion and he informed me of the following with regard to the v1.1.1 upgrade:

part of the patch, here's the relevant portion:

d. Running the game on a widescreen monitor: Normally, when playing
Alice on a widescreen monitor, the game may stretch to fill the
entire width of the monitor (in some versions of the MacOS, it leaves
black bands). To run the game at a widescreen resolution, bring up
the Alice console and enter the following commands:

"seta r_customwidth #" where # is the width (X) of the resolution
you wish to use.
"seta r_customheight #" where # is the height (Y) of the resolution
you wish to use.
"seta r_mode -1"

After doing this, you'll need to restart the video subsystem for the
change to take effect. Do this with the following console command:
"vid_restart"
I further asked if it would present a true 16:9 display or if it would show a squished 4:3 display and he responded:

Whoo, that's awesome. I'm going to be dusting it off and playing through it once I get a better machine, myself, most likely.

This trick works on all Quake 3-based games.
