So France got a new face, here is it…

and here is a previous version of it, which didn't gain the approval…

Anyhow, I have an issue with it, the red squirting from Marianne's neck yells guillotine to me.

They could have done way better with that slogan. Something like 'France: Ménage à trois en France'.

The original is quite good. The second is merely rancid.

I love how bureaucrats so often recognize something that's really really good and then proceed to remove everything that made it great in the first place.

The logo with the writing loses its entire point if the writing doesn't emerge as part of the drawing. Might as well leave the writing off, then - now, it's just clutter.

Exactly. Leaving the "ce" to trail along with the blue squiggle to form a French flag culminating in the star.

Excellently balanced, organic, original.

Now, none of that works. It's just completely pointless.

Actually I don't think France has an issue with boobies, but since this a a tourism logo, they were afraid that the good people of the USA and other prudish countries had an issue with it...

You guys are putting the cart before the horse here. Just because something is artistically possible doesn't make it good idea. The approved script is much more legible, since the letters aren't being contorted to fit a human form that doesn't even look very proportionate. Legibility is much more important in a logo, which is generally just glanced at.

Besides, if the rejected one was accurate, it'd have tufts of hair peeking out of the R and N.

Why don't they try cleaning their trains up, sweeping the gypsies off the streets, getting rid of that rank smell in Gare du Nord and on the B line, and just generally organizing the country so that it doesn't take 3 hours to perform a basic task? In short, just let the Germans take them over again. That would do wonders for the country, much more than a new logo could ever accomplish.

Just so that other people understand Kerrigan's remarks, there is of course only one train station in the whole of France, for the entire population of 60 million. As he so rightly said it is an armpit, much like Kings Cross in London is, but we wouldn't want to compare would we? There is also only one subway line, and that strangley enough is called the B line. There are no subways in Lyon or Toulouse for example - its a lie. That it only takes 2 hours to get from Paris to Lyon (of course Lyon doesn't have any train stations) is a lie, beacuse this would imply some efficiency in France. The fact that they can make aircraft that the US military would like to buy is also a lie, its obviously Chirac who is manipulating the world press. There is a plague of gypsies in France, so much so that we are forced to buy gas masks and always carry spare change in our pockets. The 'gypsies' (Tsigane) however mustn't be confused with residents that are coming from another European country - Romania, that stalwart, democracy respecting, uncorrupt country bordering the Black Sea with a Gross National Product of three potatoes.

There is nothing good in cheese-eating surrender monkey France. Why it ranks as the most visited tourist destination is still being studied, its probably a lie anyway.

Comparing King's Cross St. Pancras to Gare du Nord is like comparing Gordon Ramsay to Burger King.

It's most visited because all women feel obligated to drag their men to the Eiffel tower. So far, this has happened to me twice. Within a couple days, however, they're begging to leave. No amount of over-cooked horse meat will keep them in the city after they've seen vagrants taking a dump on the street. A vacation in France would be wonderful, if one could largely avoid most of Paris.

subliminal anatomy aside, it looks very 80s, with the squiggles and whatnot. Very, "hey look I have this brush tool!"

I forget, are the 80s being "back" a good thing, or not?

I didn't even see them until I read a few posts down.

The American one is boring. The logo needed to be a little more prominent, with the text minimized a bit.

Is it a coincidence that the USA logo is not unlike the Barack Obama '08 logo?
I guess both are working with the elements of:
- the US flag
- ribbons of highway
- circles

There is only so much you can do with the american flag. I used to have to make logos for politicians and it sucked. Every time was a fight to get them away from red and blue, because every single one wanted nothing but red and blue with stars and strips. Blech.

I always thought Airbus was a European consortuum.
Not to compare, but British fighters have been used by the US military since the 80's.

I guess that's what they stand for… or believe in. As red, black, and white is the king of all corporate color schemes, red blue and white has to be for politics, but even so maybe they are just too narrow minded or scary to take a different road cause after all, red, white, blue and whatnot is ubiquitous.

Here you can take a look to some Obama logo ideas weren't chosen, while the winner is stellar, the finalist #1 was a nice and different approach.

As for the winner, some sketches… signed by Sol Sender, Andy Keene and Amanda Gentry.
