Just wondering if those with faster G4's and G5's even see the zoom effect when opening up files and applications? Reason I ask is because I've seen it more on slower G3's and stuff... on faster machines, it's either not even happening or so quick that you don't even notice...

Just wondering.

It doesn't matter how fast your computer is. They made the animation only so fast. It doesn't go any faster than it Apple made it go. Lets see... the framerate will be slower on a CRT iMac, but as far as speed... I don't think it slows down or speeds up.

You can turn this effect off if you want.

1. Open Terminal.app
2. Type: defaults write com.apple.finder ZoomRects -bool false
3. Type the Enter key or the Return key
4. Relaunch the Finder or Log Out to see the results.

Thanks for the information and for the Terminal.app instructions, I appreciate that.

As I haven't seen much reason to turn it off, I'll have it stay on...

I have an alias on my desktop to my home folder. If I shift+double click it, it opens in slow motion.

You can shift close a finder window to see it close in slow motion.

I wonder if you can set it to use genie

I think it may also depend on whether or not you have the Dock set to animate opening animations turned on. I didn't see these until I did a clean install of Panther, and I used to have that setting turned off.

Yeah. Even more fun is to option-shift-click minimize when you have several windows open in an app. Of course that doesn't tend to happen in Safari with the tabs, but with IE, for instance, it does !

What if you change your mind down the road? Is it the same steps but change -bool false to -bool true? You should submit this to MacOSXhints.com.

Apple doesn't read these message boards. If you have a complaint or suggestion for OS X send feedback where it will do some good.
