For an ESL (English as a Second Language) student, what's the one software that pronounces the words you want for you? I imagine a software that sort of works like Ctrl+Command+D in tiger where a highlighted word is defined, except its pronounciation is produced.

Thanks.

Is the built in speech recognition in OS X not enough for you? Im not familar with any programs, but I had a friend who wanted something similar. What she did was got to system preferences>speech>text to speech. Within this dialog you can set a keyboard mappable key to speak "selected" text. You can slow down the enunciation of the words by setting the speech speaking rate. She had recently moved from the Dominican Republic, and used this as a tool to supplement her English courses, and she said it helped alot.

Firstly, it's "pronunciation" :-)
Secondly, the Tiger dictionary displays the pronunciation next to the word definition. In preferences you can change it between diacritical and IPA.

In Tiger, you can set Universal Access to speak words. Play around with the voices. Victoria is quite good if you speed "her" just a little.
