My computer has been acting VERY strange lately. VLC stopped being an option for file formats, had to reinstall... fonts are dissapearing so I restart and hope they come back, sometimes the font I wanted reappears but others begin are now gone.

I have no explanation for this other than... uh oh... virus? I'm doing nothing out of the ordinary with my Mac. Any ideas are really appreciative.

No such things as viruses.
PS in Tiger has a disappearing font problem easily fixed in Tiger.

So, what are you running, Panther or Tiger.
Fonts are missing? What apps have you been running?
Did you open Font Book and see if any have been disabled?
If so, did you re-enable?

Are you running the beta of Silk? Are you running an un-Tigerized version of Silk and/or TinkerTool.

Have you been doing any mods?

Maybe it's PS then. I'm running 10.4.1. I've checked FontBook, but the fonts actually are completely gone from there. If I restart, some fonts reappear, but I'm missing others. I am doing modifications, but nothing I don't normally do. I am not running any versions of Silk. I am running Growl, Adium, Shapeshifter, and Deskshade. I've noticed I'm not the only one with this problem on the Apple Discussion forums.

I've also lost the ability to drag and drop files onto the dock icons. Another problem that seems to be common, but has no current fix it appears from the forums. I'm just baffled with the sudden turn of events to my poor baby :|

Open Font Book
Select the "missing" fonts
Go to Edit -> Disable Fonts (it may take a minute to disable them)
Go to Edit -> Enable Fonts

This is from a thread on macosxhints.

As far the other problems, dunno. Create a new user and see if the problem persists beyond your profile.

I can't do anything in Font Book, they don't appear there. Vanished. It's odd, because Adium still sees them, but if I click on them, nothing happens. So apparently Adium doesn't know where the font is either.

As far as the dock... it doesn't occur in another user account, which is the same issue as the rest of the fortunates to run into this bug. They've even completely replaced the library to no avail. I'm coming to the conclusion from reading the discussion forums that Apple has no solution right now and I might just have to sit tight for an update.

I appreciate your help though Randman
