Quadra - 1994-1997 (in a box, waiting to be donated)
8600 - 1997-2004 (in a corner, replaced by mini in role as secondary desktop)
iBook 466 (Graphite) - 2000-2006 (still used occasionally but mainly used by younger brother)
G5 DP 2.0 - 2004-present - the GREATEST

2001 - PowerMac G4, 400Mhz
2002 - 17" FP iMac, 800Mhz (still my daily machine, sold the others)

Those Quadra's were great. My church bought two. They were their first computers. They still have them in storage.

Apple IIGS: I forget when I had this.
Power Mac 8100/80: 1994-1997
(no computer in 1998, 1H 1999)
PowerBook G3 (Beige Keyboard), aka Lombard: 1999-2002
PowerBook G4 Titanium 1GHz w/Superdrive: 2002-present (essentially my GFs Mac now)
iMac G5 20" 2.0GHz, 2005-present.

Think I might get a MacBook this spring or summer, and maybe replace the iMac next year..

Mac 512ke upgraded to Mac Plus.
Mac II upgraded to Mac IIfx.
Does a PowerTowerPro count?
Dual 1 Mhz Quicksilver G4.
12" PowerBook, 1Mhz G4

I didn't purposely try to run the things into the ground. When they got too slow, I got a new one. Note that I was pushing each of these computers through their whole life. I started with DTP, moved over to 3DCG and finally ended up in film and video. IOW, these weren't word processing machines. Since the PowerBook is really a "secondary" computer, that's only 4 different chassis over 22 years.

Try that with a PC.

Admittedly, I (by pure chance) picked just the right time to maximize utility. When I upgraded to the IIfx that was top of the line for like almost two years, and obviously got much utility after that. I didn't dump it until late 1995.

I've had a couple 400 Mhz iMacDVSEs and a couple Mac Minis (one G4 and I just bought an Intel), but these are for my render farm. To contrast my luck with the other computers, I'd say my Mini G4 had the shortest useable life. It was dog slow to begin with, and was supplanted by the Intel Minis almost immediately. The DVs lasted five years though.

Pre Mac:
Apple ][+ clone
Apple ][+ clone in a small form factor

Mac laptops:
2001 - 12" iBook G3 600 MHz <-- The first Mac I owned, and I got it specifically for OS X.
2002 - 15" TiBook 1 GHz <-- First Mac laptop to 1 GHz, and first one with a SuperDrive.
2005 - 12" iBook G4 1.33 GHz <-- First and only iBook to support Core Image in hardware.
2006 - 13" MacBook CD 2.0 GHz <-- Current laptop

Desktops (all of which I still own):
2004 - Cube 450 MHz --> 1.7 GHz <-- Has a GeForce 6200 with Core Image support, and a SuperDrive.
2005 - 20" iMac G5 2.0 GHz <-- First iMac to support Aperture
2006 - 24" iMac C2D 2.33 GHz

Oh and a Power Mac 8500/120 I played around with in 2001. Man that thing was a bitch to take apart.

PowerMac 7300/180PC
PowerMac G4/450
PowerBook 15" TiBook 1GHz
PowerBook 15" AlBook 1.5GHz < Just died

For now no macs that are alive.

I did get my parents hooked on macs and they have an iMac G5 1.8. They were first hooked using Mac OS 7.6.1 on the 7300 so you can imagine the shock when they went to OS X.

99, iMac 333Mhz Blueberry Rev D
03, iBook 900Mhz G3
04, 12 inch PB 1Ghz (replaces iBook)
06, 2Ghz CD MacBook

I've had four Macs now. I still own three of them, the iBook sadly had to go back to Apple I mean sure it didn't work anymore but...

I imagine my next Mac will be whatever durable cased laptop has next time I need one/can afford one. I can't imagine getting an aluminum one again. Dent's way too easily. I dropped my MacBook once so far (been over six months) and all the happened was the plastic got a slight scuff and the corner bit got pushed up and squished but that bit's now broken off so there's just like a slight crack. Barely noticeable, not at all a big deal. Way better than the huge dents in my PowerBook. I'd still love to somehow franken Mac something into an old style iBook's case... doubt that'd be super easy though...

Has your MacBook picked up a ton of little, random scratches? My old iBook looked like I had taken a rake to it for 20 minutes a day by the time I got rid of it.

I do know what you're saying about the PBooks getting dented up easily. Mine still looks nice except for the one circular dent on my lid from where I dropped my phone on it. The stupid thing is that I only dropped it from about 10 inches above the casing.

Maybe to you. But in any case, the thread was not about listing pears in your lifetime, but all the apples in your lifetime! If you want to list other fruit, start your own thread!!!

edit: Although if anyone here had a PowerBook 5300 they could make comments about lemons.

Only one of them was actually paid for, the others were taken from work as they were being thrown out to play around with them. Figured I could get a working one or two out of them (since my original had died). I got 3 of them working in the end, though there wasn't much point really Simply for the hell of it, I guess is the answer.

That actually made me laugh hard enough to shake the bed (trying to hold it in). Nearly woke up the wife.

It's sort of tricky for me to come up with a list of all the mac's i've had, cause for one, i've never really "owned" any of them, and some of them I had for very short durations of time.

I know my first mac was a Macintosh SE. That was around 1998. My parents were using PowerComputing Mac Clones, and Performa's, and I thought they were the coolest things ever. I always dreamed of having a "color computer". My younger brother had a Macintosh Plus, and my older brother had a Macintosh SE/30. A fair distribution.

At some point, we all got upgraded to SE/30's. I had an SE/30 with 32mb of ram and a 1.2GB hard drive, running system 7.5.3. I have to say it's one of the most solid, incredible machines i've ever used. To think that it was 15 years old and still running flawlessly.

Anyway, so I had my SE/30 for a while, and at various points I was temporarily upgraded to a PowerComputing or given the honor of using one. In 2002/03 (can't remember exactly) my dad bought a 350mhz G4 tower with a 17" Apple CRT display for $475. That was temporarily my setup, but again, it wasn't so simple. I think after that I might have been downgraded to a Mac Clone again for some period of time, or even an SE/30.

It wasn't until June 2004 that I finally got my hands on a real computer that was under my control 100%. My dad bought a Dual 1.25Ghz G4 tower from Mac Mall during their closing sale, when the G5's had already been on the market for almost a year. At first I used that computer with the 17" CRT, but was later upgraded to a 15" LCD, and later I bought a 17" LCD. I had the G4 tower for 2 and a half years. By the time I sold it, I had bought more ram, more hard drives, and upgraded the video card. I sold the whole setup after the Mac Pro's were already released, and that's when I bought my current setup. Mac Pro and 23" ACD.

And that's the end of my story!
