Hey,

I love iChat, if you could do better, do it.
(iChat i used by more than 90% of Mac AIM chaters)
But i would prefer you to increase iChat.

Anyway, you can take a look to the iChat X heading of iCM :

Virtually yours.

From ichamasters Imagine a freeware which loads itself in the menubar and work in background, that allows to see how many participants are in a room and who they are without having to join the room!

IM features I'd love & need.

- proper proxy support (i.e. the preferences panel, UNLIKE iChat)
- iChat 'icons' (surprisingly nice upgrade)
- offline messaging (likely server specific though)
- proper (and clean) integration with Address Book, unlike iChat
- good use of dock icon for information (most seem to do this well)
- .mac, AIM, MSN, Yahoo compatibility

That's my list.

Definitely - that's the one thing Fire and Proteus can't do. Plus being reliable and not disconnecting from a service without telling the user would be nice <cough> Proteus </cough>

main thing would be fast and memory effiicient. File transfer would be nice too, and tabbed convos; basically take adium, add a few features and multiprotocol and BAM that's what i want

I'm pretty sure Adium2's plug-in architecture supports multiprotocol.

Adam Iser is being pretty quiet about Adium2, but I'm sure it's going to be the best IM app out there when it comes out.

You can build it from CVS right now. It's usable.

that was my theory too, much like miranda does on the windows side. But it's just taking a while to become official, and until then the CVS stuff does not have those plugins as far as i know, so I'm impatient

Not sure if this was mentioned here already or not but some developer just needs to work his mojo on creating a custom .nib for iChat that gives iChat a dual-window mode like Adium -- separate buddylist and one window w/ tabs for each conversation. That would be nice.
