Has anyone played this game yet? I've been itching to go out and buy it, but I'd have to lose two games in order to do it. Is it worth it? It looks unbelievable, but I'm wanting some input before I trade in.

Are you kidding me?? Best 3rd person shooter ever.

The visuals and art direction are so outstanding I didn't even know it was possible on this generation.

Never mind. Got it. Playing it right now.

Even on a standard TV, it looks unbelievable. I can't wait to hop online tonight once I've got a little more experience.

I like the grenade aiming thing.

Just finished the game also. It is a bit short but it is a good ride.

I dunno if it's the way that it's presented but it looks all "squished" on my screen. The characters look a bit wide and short with giant heads and necks. I've tried other resolutions, setting the 360 and my projector to different ratios and still the same result. Kind of looks like if you forced a 4:3 output into a 16:9.

That not the way it's supposed to look, is it?

It's a great game. I'm really liking it.

By the time I finish the single player I think I might be good enough to go a few rounds online.

Nah, go ahead and try out online. I've only played the single player for about 2 hours, and I'm doing okay in multiplayer.

Their trailer is awesome — I saw on TV last night. I thought the one I saw was slightly different than the one posted above, but I can't find it online. Same music and ending, but I thought the TV spot had a different intro.

It's a good game, but I'm not sure I'd call it great. 5 minutes of vehicle driving and it gets a "vehicular combat" tag (and the driving sequence sucks). Online co op is the reason for buying, but given that you almost always travel in a team of 4 they should have 4 player online co op. Speaking of that, when I played co op without hosting it things seemed laggy (like half a second lag to a guy only 4 miles away from me, although sometimes that guy is a noob and keeps bittorrent running). It looks great, but if you look hard enough you will find some low res textures (although it's not as bad as Doom 3).

A good first generation 3rd person shooter but I don't think it's worthy of the 10/10 praise it's been getting from almost everywhere. I'd give it an 8/10.
To be determined later.

I loved that car driving part. That thing is the most bad-ass car ever in a game and I like the fact that you don't shoot but use a UV gun.

Minor Spoilers:

I liked the part with the Beserker. The fact that if you walk slowly it can't hear you.
It was a nice change from hiding, peeking out, and shooting. One thing that bothered me in the Beserker part was my partner. He kept running up to the Beserker and getting killed, thus I had to star the mission again.

It took a little away from the scene, but I ended up shooting it to get its attention, dodging it, and running to the door, letting it break through the door, running through, and repeating all the way outside. It was easier than sneaking and risking Dom from getting killed as I was about to get outside.

Great game nevertheless.

My fav part is where you had to shoot those gas tanks so you could stay in the light or else those bat things would get ya. It was like being in the movie "Pitch Black" except good.

The Beserker was cool but she scared the hell out of me.

Using the Satellite and the hammer of Dawn was a blast also!

I am in love with this game. It's incredible in every way. Well, almost every way. I found the story to be laughably bad and the game was too short and a bit anti-climatic.

That said, it's still an amazing experience.

We just got it this morning, and it's awesome. I think the cover feature is one of the most realistic shooter innovations in a long time. My wife is frustrated with the learning curve, but the more she agrees that the game is unbelievable.

The cover feature was also in perfect dark and the only part of that game I liked.

While I would tend to agree, every other game/video looks fine.

Anyone using the VGA adapter with the same problem?

The commercial is one of the few I turn the sound up for when it comes on. Excellent choice of background music. If I had a 360 I'd pick the game up just because of the ad.

the version I found on iTunes after seeing Donnie Darko was 'Mad World' by Gary Jules, but it looks like the actually Donnie Darko version is by Sacre:

The song in Donnie Darko is sung by Gary Jules. Check out the actual soundtrack if you don't believe it.

Incidentally, it was orginally a Tears for Fears song that sounded nothing like that at all.

Or didn't grow up on them but loved them anyway.

They did a cover of the cover at concert, was freakin' sweet.

My take on this game:
a) really REALLY easy. Played it from start to beginning (my housemates sometimes joined in and played too) and was never stuck or found a certain boss too hard. Killed the first 2 "bosses" without dying. Last boss took about 3 attempts.
b) really REALLY short. MGS 2 Style short.
c) Controls ****ing OWN.
d) Sounds, Graphics, AI stunning.
In all, easily 8.5/10
Clearly influenced by Res Evil 4, which owns.

Yeah, the single player is kind of short, but it's taken me a while because I played a lot of multiplayer in between the campaign. The single player is much more fun cooperatively either with a friend there or through xbox live. Still, I agree the game is kind of short...what difficulty did you play it on? I started on casual and just blew through every level I tried...have you tried the hardcore or insane?

I am a pretty casual gamer and to be honest, I had a hard time with the first boss. I guess If I played a lot more in general, I would have gotten through quicker..

Still, it is so much fun and I still have not beaten it yet...

Did you play on hardcore or casual? It's definitely not a hard game on either, but I'm playing through again on hardcore, and it's definitely a lot harder. The game is still short.

But the incredible multiplayer more then makes up for the short single player.

We should play an all MacNN multiplayer game. Who has Xbox live?

I got a little time yesterday and today to play a few more rounds.
I am on the part where you have to drive the car. How far through the game am I?
