The multiplayer beta is out, and is free until the launch date in a couple of weeks. You can get it through Steam or Games for Windows (Live or something, since it used my old xbox gamer tag).

I have to say, it is different. Less base building, and more combat. It takes a little bit to get used to. I would recommended creating a custom game, and setting it so you only play one cpu (easy), until you get the feel for it.

Single player should be interesting.

Current races for the beta are Space Marines, Eldar, Orks, and Tyrannids.

Sounds interesting enough to try the beta. I'll try to remember to download it when I get home..

I haven't tried the Beta, mostly because of my Internet, though I could download it at my brothers shop... I'm definitely getting it though. I have every other Dawn of War game. And I play the miniature game. So its a no brainer. It looks and sounds pretty darn good.
As a player of the tabletop game though, something I'm looking forward to in the series is a way to add up army lists and use them in a game. With DoW II using wargear so much now, I could see this possible through a mod, though still unlikely.
I am curious to how well it will play. Even on my relatively high-end PC in my sig, Company of Heroes takes some horsepower to run at max. And DoW II uses a 2.0 of that engine... Of course, I don't have to run it at max settings...

Well I got the Beta through Steam. I found the selection of leaders to be odd, very odd. But I loved the graphics, performance, and the music.
The game play was pretty much what I had expected, from what I had read about. It sucks to see base building go, but in return very nice to be able to concentrate on the squads themselves. I seemed to notice a low selection of units though, but that could be that its only a Beta.

I don't mind the move away from building micromanagement towards unit focused combat. I am hoping that the full version will include more than four races though.

Nah. Expansion packs.

I got more game time in, and seriously, where are the units at? Each team has like 8 or 10 different kinds.

Oh Rumor, what's your gamertag? Maybe we can get a game in sometime?

IP Freley

I'm thinking that the beta isn't what the full game will contain. Though, from the reports so far, single player is supposed to be amazing.

Not bad. I knew I was already going to be picking it up ASAP anyway, but now I'm even more reassured.

I got my copy today. Played through the campaign a little, and have to say I quite enjoy it. The campaign can be co-op as well.

Hey, I saw you were playing last night, and there was an icon I'm not sure about next to your gamertag. What do you have hooked up to your 360?

I'm pretty pissed. I've just been too busy to pick a copy up yet. And I call myself a fan...

Not sure what icon you mean. DoW is a PC game that uses Steam and Games for Windows Live. Not sure why they picked Steam, but GFWL uses the same Gamertag as xBox does. Oh, I'm getting Achievement points as well.

Ok... In preparation for DoW II, I was going to create my own gamertag (I've been using my brothers for years now) which meant I'd have just my achievements and would be restarting all the games, which could be fun.) Anyways... I get to the part where I'm choosing my screen name, and was going to use Mac User #001. The # isn't allowed. So I enter in Mac User 001. That's an invalid gamertag even though spaces, letters, and numbers are allowed as long as it doesn't begin with a number. It doesn't. So I try MacUser001 without spaces, just to check, and that works. If spaces are allowed, why is that when I enter spaces its invalid but when I get rid of them I'm good to go?

Both get hit with invalid gamertag. Maybe its their way of saying its taken?

EDIT: Nope. I used Rumor's tag and it comes with a tag unavailable message, as well as suggestions.

Is there an index you check against?

Our resident gamer Bogues uses a tag with a space, but I'm sure he registered his on an XBOX.

I used this page here, the sign-up page.

https://live.xbox.com/en-US/Flows/Ac...spx?Check=true

I'm sure it'll take you no where as you already have an account signed in.

Then there is a "Check Availability" option next to where you choose your gamertag.

I'm thinking its either a restriction on the word User or Mac, or both.

Thats the only reason I bothered mentioning it. Ah, well, I've got a backup name that I use for a few other things, mostly for 40K so far, like some forums and the first DoW, but hey, its for DoW II as well, and the rest of them, so...

That would be sweet. Unfortunately my name was taken. It could take me a very long time to find one I'm satisfied with. Plus, I don't even have the game yet.

I finally broke down and picked up the Chaos Rising expansion. Also, they recently added a Last Stand co-op mode for three players. Sadly, it is only one map, but hopefully they will make more.

Anyhow, I recently started playing again. The new expansion is pretty cool and adds quite a bit. A tad steep at $30, but so far there is a lot of extra content. Also, it is a standalone expansion.

I really love The Last Stand addition. Haven't picked up Chaos Rising, but then I haven't really played any games lately. I don't know if you ever got my username, Mac User 001

I've been dawdling in Borderlands and ACII, but have had very little time to do any gaming. More of my free time lately has been spent playing actual Warhammer 40K.

I'll send the request when I reboot into 7. Nice thing about the expansion is that you can play with people that don't have it.

I just installed the Retribution expansion. I'm still down to do campaign runs. Did you ever get a gamertag?

Right now you can get Dawn of War 2, Chaos Rising, and Retribution for $29.99. Not sure how long that deal will last though.

The sale is only for this weekend. Also, Retribution doesn't use Games for Windows LIVE, just Steam.
