I keep getting a message on my Mac that asks me to approve a device that uses iCloud Keychain. So, I open System Preferences, and I try to uncheck the Keychain box. As soon as I uncheck it, the checkbox checks itself on again, instantly. I just want it off so that I don't get this message time that I use my Mac.

When I mash the checkbox on and off very quickly, I get a new error message:

"Preferences Error

There was an error in iCloud preferences."

That's all that it says. The stupid checkbox stays checked.

So, I decide to go into Options... I enter a code, and then I get to a prompt: "Enter a phone number that can receive SMS messages."

Well sucks to be me, I finally get this far, and I can't continue, because I don't use phones and I don't have a phone that can receive SMS messages (whatever those are). I tried resetting iCloud Keychain, and that didn't fix the checkbox issue.

What the heck is going on?

A SMS message is a text message. Any cellphone with service can get one.

And yeah, I'm curious as to what wants to use the keychain as well.

Well I tried to get it setup on my iPod Touch, but I had no idea that I needed a phone until I was that far through the process.

Nevermind I finally got it to work.

I reset iCloud keychain on both of my devices. Then, on my Mac, I enabled iCloud Keychain again, by going into options, and when it prompted me for a security code, I clicked the "Advanced..." button and told iCloud not to use a security code. Looks like it all works and I didn't need a phone.

You don't have a cell phone?

Wow.
