I'm having a problem with copying Playstation CDs (which is legal for backup) with my new 600 Mhz CD-RW iMac. Since there is no CD copy option in Disc Burner I tried to copy all the playstation files to a folder on my desktop and from there to Disc Burner.

To my frustration there occurred read/write errors for some of the Playstation files while copying them to the desktop folder. I tried it with various CDs but there were always some files that couldn't be copied. The same day I went to a Wintel friend who copied some of the CDs I tried with a program called CloneCD. No problem.

What shall I do? Wait for a new version of Disc Burner that does CD copy? Or are there any other (free?) CD burning programs available for the new CD-RW iMacs?

Thanks for your help

Jonas

yeah... you probably wont be able to do it. To copy the disc, you need to use Astarte CD-Copy, and then burn that disc image. It works with toast, but i dont know about disc burner.

Just as a matter of interest, would you not have to have your Playstarion Chipped (illegally) to play games that have been burned on CDR's?

I had the same prob with the P.C. it seems you can not copy the files onto the HD and then on to a CD. The only way I got it to work was to do a disc to disc copy, Sorry.

Yes you do need a 'chipped' psx to use these 'backups'.

(I don`t do this anymore I got wise and got a Dreamcast!!)

Yes it is possible, but you need a different CD writing program than DiskBurner. Toast 5 will copy playstation CD's, but just remember that you can't play these games on your Playstation unless you get it chipped.

These questions keep coming up. And everytime it makes me laugh. "Back ups are legal!" Blah blah.. How about this for a suggestion.. If you took care of your PSX discs (IE put them back in the case n stuff) and don't use them as Frisbee's for the pet dog to play catch with.. Then you might be pleasantly surprised at just how long lasting a PSX disc is! Saving you all that hassle of even having to think about "Backing them up"

iPaul, i've been saying that for years, but everyone here looks at me like the old man down the street who yells at all the young whipper-snappers who are up to no good, oh well.

There's also a boot CD you can make for the PSX, so you don't have to put a MOD chip in.

You can also get a "mod" for the connectix program, if you use that.

And just because you use a mod chip, doesn't mean that you're doing something illegal.

Perhaps someone wants to play imported versions of games for example ?

There's tons of Japanese games that will never ever get released in the US.

or a "game enhancer" for that matter. Works like an old school game shark too. Mine was even cheaper the a game shark, and i can play imports and backups.

The connectix mod works nice too.

Thanks for all your replies.
In the meantime I have found a way to make it work on my iMac:

1. Make an CD image with as Astarte CD-Copy

2. Burn the the image with Toast 4.2 Deluxe in 1x speed (!!!)

Toast says that my CD burner is not supported but it works anyway.

Pleaze tell me, how, where, do I get it. Is it a software mod/crack for the app, or some sort of booting thing for the psx cds? I am so unlucky to have a copy of Virtual Gamestation, and it does only support usa disks. I live in Europe.

Thanx!

Well maybe the copy of the psx game has protection, so u have to use a pc to make a image with cdrwin, download a crack and apply it from psxcopyworld.com and burn it...........

guess macs aren't good for everything.

You're the lamest troll I've ever heard dude!
HAHAHA
Get yourself some respect next time you fill your car.

Burn at 1X? Why? Burn at whatever the hell you like if you have a decent burner, and it'll work.

A PSX copy has never failed for me... CD Copy, Toast, and my Yamaha.
Rip, burn, play.
Easy.

iPaul... why say you know how to do it when you didn't say how to do it in the first place?
Fine, stick to your morals and don't give instructions, but don't feel the need to then proclaim you DID have the knowledge, just not the will to share it...

Actually, I believe "some" of the newer games that have come out have some sort of extra copy protection built in. It won't work to make a backup, if you use the method that Cipher13 described.

Anyone ever try to backup a Dreamcast game on a Mac ?

I just gave up. It was a ridiculous amount of work, compared to the few steps on a PC.
