OK, so I'm wondering how many of you would say that the person you're with when you met them was probably out of your league?

Looks don't come into it. To quote a friend of mine, "I am an ugly man, and yet I get the ladies".

PS: My wife is considerably better looking than me.

Out of your league? Depends on what league you want to play in.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

My uneducated guess is that the league that Salty is playing in, looks very much come into play.

I recently met this guy, he's a bit younger than me (21, I just had my 25th birthday) we met on a Christian forum, we hung out yesterday and had a really great time, but I kinda got the feeling it was more as friends. He's bi, but my guess leaning more toward the guys since he's wanting to really think things through on that. Super nice, fun, smart enough that in a conversation about a lot of things that other people would zone out on he's right there with you, and while normally smart funny and nice don't intimidate me, he's also very very very cute. Like not like insanely hot or anything, but still more than enough that it's hard to get over the assumption that he'd be looking for someone who was as hot as him.

Ask his commissioner if you can have an inter-league scrimmage.

I'll say that when I met my wife, my impression was that she was WAY out of my league. She seemed smarter, more interesting and much better looking than me. Orders of magnitude better. So I kept expecting her to say "it's been nice..." But she insists that even from the beginning she felt that I was smarter, more interesting and better looking that she was. Aside from the fact that she needs glasses, we've reached an agreement-we're both crazy, but we'll accept crazy about each other.

If you get along that well then it's quite possible that this other person may be thinking that you are out of his league. And that YOUR impression of how good you look may not have anything to do with HIS impression of how good you look. Give it a chance and don't scuttle any possibilities just because you think he's "out of your league."

As long as you aren't trying to land something 20,000 leagues under the sea; you should be fine.

I am not the best looking guy but I once hooked up with ginger spice. She is a ho though, she'd probably do anyone.

You could also try sabotaging his personal or professional life before making your move. You know, bring him down a notch.

+1. This is the exact boat my fiance and I are in, and it's probably why our relationship "just works".

Best way is to stop thinking that you're in a league. You'll never land that other person as long as you think they're out of your league.

I initially thought of one of those scented Strawberry Shortcake dolls from the Eighties. After googling "Ginger Spice" I conclude you might have been better off with a little plastic doll.

Actually, that's the easiest way of landing someone.

Imagine that they're out of your league (but in the opposite direction - i.e. they're luck to bag you) and it trips a trigger in your mind which outwardly displays as a confidence which they then start chasing after.

I thought it was pretty well-known that a man's status is more important in determining his league than how pretty he is. Or is your friend a lesbian?

(In a farnsworth voice) GOOD NEWS EVERYONE!

So, Friday I was txting back and forth with this guy, (We'd hung out the previous day) and I mentioned going to the gym, he was like yah I don't really go like I should, I said well you are one of those bastards that can look great either way, he said he was flattered, I reached deep down into my reserves of unwise ballsyness, and I said I had to tell him I thought he was incredibly attractive, and not just physically but as a person, and he was like wow I have to say I haven't had as much fun as I did last night in forever! And then it went on and on and on and by the end of it, it seems like even though he's still even trying to figure out if he wants to seriously try dating a guy, we're like... on that preliminary part of a relationship where we're txting back and forth non stop and in general smiling way too much!

I feel like I freaking won the jackpot!

Sorry mate, but leave well alone - this will end in tears. I suspect that this guy is gayer in your head than he is in real life.

To tag along with Doofy and Phileas, I'd advise "caution" after your "uncharacteristically forward" texting yesterday. Feeling compelled to blurt out that you thought the guy was hot is fine in itself, but not "being yourself" will show if you keep at it. Relax and see what develops without pressuring YOURSELF, let alone this new guy. Think of your text conversation as "breaking the ice" on a personal (not intimate) relationship and be happy with that. If it works at all, it'll work without your going to any extra effort, and if it doesn't work, your extra effort won't help anyway.

I married "out of my league" according to my friends. You've done it correctly though Salty, get 'em young. At 21 they haven't drawn the circle exclusive enough. So good news, you might still be in!
