There was a post I put in my IE scrapbook from XLR8yourmac.com about someone who put system 8.6 on his G4 that came with 9.0.4 by doing it component by component - does anyone know how to do this?

I also have one question....WHY???
9.0.4 kicks 8.6 butt anyday...I should know , I've used 8.6 for almost 2 years and I can fairly say that 9.0.4 is far far better.

sek is right, why on earth downgrade, 9.0.4 is great but 9.1 has allready arrived, so upgrade because 9.1 is even better.

i ran 8.6 happily, on my previous powerbook (2400c)
running 9.1 on a pismo now.
8.6 was a great os, but 9.1 is:faster, cleaner, crashes less.
upgrade!

it would take firmware and boot rom tweaks, among other things, so unless you are a programmer, probably not something you would want to attempt. And I have to vote 3rd with the others.....why ?????
9.0 & 9.1 are way better, and if you ever want to run classic mode in X, you will HAVE to have a 9.1 (or 9.2??) system folder installed somewhere anyway

Supposedly 8.6 has superior sound quality. I've heard a lot of pro audio people who want to stick with it.

not in my experience...
8.6 was nice, but everything seems to run better in 9.1 (my apps, hacks, sound, etc)
no place to go but forward...
