I'm still running 10.4 on my PB and newer iMac, and I'm thinking about finally upgrading to Leopard via the new Box set. In the past, I believe it was legal to load Apple software on both a single laptop and a desktop provided they were both owned and used by the same individual. Is this still how the license agreement reads??

Applications maybe, operating systems no. You need to buy a copy of Leopard for each computer or get the 5 license family pack.

Agreed, you'll need to purchase the family pack box set -- which is an excellent value at $229. Especially considering that its only $30 dollars more than the fam pack Leopard OS alone.

Just fyi, your recollection was never within Apple's licensing terms.

Every Apple software product is licensed differently. Mac OS X, iLife, and iWork all require separate licenses for each machine that you own.
It can be confusing since some of Apple's professional applications allow the behavior that you're talking about.
As an example, Aperture allows this practice.

B. Single User License. This License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on one Apple-labeled desktop computer and one Apple-labeled laptop computer so long as both computers are owned and used by you.

There's also a 5-user "Family" license for the OS, but the terms are pretty clear-cut about who qualifies as "family."
