I'm amazed that there are such good CPU upgrades on offer for my PB 1400, but I refuse to upgrade until I can replace my dead internal CD-ROM drive. It's completely stopped recognising disks - a common fault on 1400s according to message boards - and yet I can't find replacements anywhere.

Is there anywhere I can get hold of one, and if not, will the companies supporting this model so well with CPU upgrades thinking of supporting this essential component too?

(I could get an external drive - but it messes up the point of a laptop..)

Every once in a while Macresq.com get's PowerBook 1400 CD-ROM drives in stock at good prices.

Macresq also does repairs - why don't you check on fixing your drive - it might not cost all that much.
