No way. Upgrade as soon as possible! I used my PB17 for two months with 512MB. Beachballs at every occasion.
Now-with 1GB they are gone forever!

If you haven't ordered yet, there is an option to order just one single 512 chip. Then you either get 3rd party 512 chip or wait until the 1 GB chip comes down a bit in price.

This unfortunately transforms your order into a BTO order, which can take longer and won't be returnable. Tradeoff.

Anyway, you might wanna do the math, comparing 3rd party RAM to a BTO order. Also, waiting till Panther comes out will save you $129, and Apple has said it'll be out before the end of the year. Maybe they'll have the latch straightened out by then.

Changing the 2 256 chips to a single 512 costs $100 from Apple (plus sales tax). http://www.dealram.com/ has 512 chips for the PowerBook for $96 delivered.

$196 plus tax and BTO hassle or $192 delivered with no BTO trouble.

(This is all assuming that the 15 foot PowerBook uses the same memory as the 15" model.)

iPhoto is pretty memory intensive. I am not sure about Dreamweaver since I don't use it.

But you could go under Application/Utilities/Process Viewer.

Under Process Viewer you could see how much RAM you are using. There is a command in Terminal too that you could check out how many page outs you are getting.

If I were you, I would definitely see how much ram I am using before I go out and buy some. (Unless of course you just got money to throw around.)
