It might be a situation with custom build machines if yours doesn't work.
It's just an ordinary day and it's all your
state of mind, at the end of the day, you
just gotta say it's alright!

As the original poster said. You must delete the hyphen that pops up on your serial number. I tried and it didn't work but upon deleting the hyphen it went straight through!

Stats: 12" PB w/ Superdrive BTO (added 80GB drive)
Ordered: Sept. 16, Shipped Oct. 3, Received Oct. 7

I went to the web page and tried to order. It wouldn't let me. Said it couldn't find my serial number.

Then I called the Up-to-Date phone number and explained that many people have been able to order the $20 upgrade even though they had purchased earlier, etc. etc. and was told basically, they didn't know that people were able to do that, they shouldn't be able to do that and those people will probably have their orders cancelled because they violate the terms and conditions of the upgrade offer.

I called Customer Relations and logged an official complaint. It won't do any good, but at least they know I'm not happy.

I guess I'll just get it for $69 through the Edu Discount. Hope all you guys who managed to order actually get your Panther.

I purchased my Superdrive Al15" at the Soho store on 9/22/03 and qualified. I placed an order for the upgrade, so we'll see if it's legit. If not, well I expected to have to pay full price anyway, but it would be a nice surprise to save $100 on it! Thanks for alerting us, MacsGalore.

OK, I wasn't sure if it was the full install and I want that option so I called Apple and asked, the first guy I talked to said "I think you need 10.2". So I transfered over to cancel my order, before I did I asked the new person one more time and she said very confidently "It is the FULL INSTALL" So I will keep my $20 up-to-date CD!

For all of you who ordered your 'books before October 8th, here's what you do-

1) Register your machine at http://www.apple.com/register

2) Wait til you get the e-mail from apple saying you qualified.

3) After getting this e-mail, wait about a day.

4) Go to http://www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/ and try your luck again.

I did this, and just a minute ago I qualified my BTO Al 15" 1.25GHz which I bought with the EDU discount on September 16th. All new PowerBooks should qualify for this offer. MAKE SURE YOU REGISTER FIRST, then WAIT a day as all the information makes its way around Apple's internal systems... nothing happens in an hour over there.
