Coutesy of a friend of a friend:

"When it is between 10 (F) and -10 (F) degrees outside, it makes sense to sing "numb" by Linkin Park. It is not emo."
What, me worry?

Only a fool would link their ego to the success of their forums thread popularity (And you may quote me on that)

You need a Twitter account.
I don't have enough to say and/or share to make it worth my while (....to post it on Twitter)

Your friend, a wordsmith he is not.
It was a she.

Allow me to clarify further: Your "not my friend, it was a friend of a friend. A friend by proxy perhaps", is not a wordsmith.

It may not be popular, but it doesn't smack of the whoring that besson's threads do.

As an aside, emo seems to be a very US-centric thing. Since you (the Americans) are so backwards when it comes to music, I shall forgive you.

Merry Christmas and all that.

Hell no. I’d say it’s even stronger in the UK than in the US.

I mean the use of the 'word' emo, not the music type. I doubt that you could find 10 people outside of London who know what it means.

I was referring to the word, and more specifically, to the negative hype around it. I personally know a lot more than 10 people from outside London who not only use it, but use it to great derogatory effect.

But then the Scandinavian countries learn US English, which is the wrong type. I shall ask my UK based clan members when I'm on XBL tonight if they know what emo is.

You see, that means nothing to me, because I have no idea how to use this 'emo' thing. Maybe my age is a factor : 37.

Saying that I've been reading the wikipedia article on emo music and suddenly find that lots of bands that I listened to are now in the emo bracket. In 10 years time, there'll be another category and I'll be equally clueless.

OK, so I was hoping it wouldn't come to this, but apparently I'll need to provide a more elementary explanation:

So let's start with "emo": My understanding of "emo" is that it is short for emotional, and it it is used to describe teenagers who are in the emotional roller-coaster phase of adolescence and they go for the more "Everything sucks and no one understand me" point of view. Most people, including fellow teenagers who don't go to the "Everything sucks" POV, find the emo subset to be quite whiny and annoying with their anti-social behavior as well as every "bump in the road of life" brings them to tears and/or hysteric outburst.

Linkin Parks 'Numb' is an emo song expressing how he feels "The world sucks and no one understand him" so emotionally he saying he's "numb" to the world.

An air temperature of 10(F) and below will make skin physically numb quite quickly. Living in Northern New England, it's a temperature range that frequently occurs this time of the year.

So what this persons' quote is really saying is:

I'm really cold but I'm not whining about it (even though in a way, they are). That's why I find the statement funny.
What, me worry?

Hence why I want to take you up on Mount Washington. I think an experience like that would be the good old "don't judge a man until you've walked in his shoes"-esque experience needed.

If simply standing up their in the freezing wind doesn't make you see the humor, then perhaps I'll bring out the booze to help warm us up, in which case you'll not just find it funny, you'll be singing it!
What, me worry?

It’s not that I disagree with it (though I wouldn’t consider Numb a particularly emo song to begin with); it’s just not what I’d consider funny.

Well, to improve future attempts at universal humor, please share with me (This includes all of MacNN) what you do consider funny.

Thus, it'll allow me to provide future posts with material that contributes to to the overall MacNN experience.

I think that its quite funny that people believe that CO2 made by humans is causing temperature to rise.

And in the spirit of the original topic of the thread, and of course very politically INcorrect, one bumper sticker I like a lot says:
"I want emo grass-it cuts itself."

If a blonde and an emo kid jump off a building and hit the ground at the same time, who dies first?
The blonde, she drowns in the emo kid's tears.

What's the difference between an Emo kid and a dead baby?
The baby doesn't cry.

What do you call an emo kid outside the mall?
Anything he'll cry no matter what you do.

Most here "got" it, but not everyone is as amused as you are. Personally, I didn't find it all that witty.
