Is there a way to cause a teminal window to open, and RC 5 to start crunching when a machine starts up under OS X? I lost about 4 days of crunching while I was on vacation, and we had a little 5 second power blip at work.

Can this be done by placing a script in the login items panel? and if so, does anybody already have a script like this written?

Yeah, MDC3 does this (among other things).

Anyone have the link for it handy? (I wrote the darn thing and don't have the link -- if you can't find it email me and I will throw it up on my server).

MDC3 is a GUI tool to configure RC5 and other distributed computing apps to work in the background on OSX.

I looked on dnetc's downloads page, and didn't see it there...

hit the "email" button by your reply, but the boards say:

" Sorry! That user has specified that they do not wish to receive emails through this board."

Can you post a url here?

Thanks,

./dnetc -install

That will create the startup script (it was added after MDC3 was created)

Huh? I still have the fundamental problem of not having this MDC3 thing.

You don't need it...
Just run that where you would instead manually run the dnet client.

not sure what you mean. I input -install like this:

chrisvre% /Applications/dnetc/dnetc -install

Terminal output:
dnetc: -install is not supported for this platform.

(dnetc v2.8015-469-CTR-01072708 for Mac OS X (Darwin 5.5))

What am I trying to install, anyway? You're being vague, Scott.

Download the latest beta version, then do it.

It will install it to run at bootup.
Otherwise, it'll need a bit more work to only run at login.
