This is strange. I read on MacNN about the availability of OpenGL 1.1.2 from the Software Update feature in OS9. The MacNN story mentioned a Dmitri who reported he was able to do it this way, but that AOL users were getting disconnected when they attempted the update.

I went home, and tried Software Update on my AOL account. It located the OpenGL 1.1.2 and asked if I wanted to update. I said Yes and it shut down AOL.

Fine, I logged on with my Flashnet account. But now, Software Update says there is no update available, and I still have OpenGL 1.1 not 1.1.2

Anyone else have this problem? Any Suggestions?

I'm having problems with Software Update as well. On a beige G3 on a regular ISP (non-AOL) software update says there are no updates available. Same held true on a brand new iMac DV SE that I tried. Neither system has the latest OpenGL.

be advised that Apple has not yet seen fit to follow-up and actually POST OpenGL update at the site mentioned in the TIL articles.

I realise that is is none of my business and this is a touchy subject, but mightn't you consider an ISP other than AOL? I honestly can't understand why anyone uses their service. Forgive me. I SAID FORGIVE ME.

Software Update keeps telling me that there are no updates, although I'm using OpenGL 1.1.1... I can't figure out why.

AOL is easier much easier to use for the new computer user which, with the iMac, is quite a few users. You also get little perks like 7 email addresses at no extra cost (most ISPs only provide one and charge extra for more... especially six more).

Ease of use, since the introduction of the Internet Setup Assistant and the one-button Browse the Internet feature would seem to be moot: using a Mac, it is easy to use any ISP...

And AOL's protocols are a hindrance quite often. I see no valid trade-off here. I have used AOL on friend's Macs and find it very much less than good, even when you use IE. I suppose that families can benefit from the mulitple email accounts, and it would be nice for the kids, I guess. So I can see the family reasoning as the only valid reason to use AOL. It's only MY opinion. I really like the AIM freeware though, and do think AOL has done a great job with it. Of course you need to patch it with ResEdit to make it look nice... `8-)

In any event perhaps we can find someone that will know why those of us NOT using AOL are being told there are no updates. I find it odd that some people see it and others don't. A brief mention of this is made in Apple's forums; but, there has been no official response as of the last time I checked.

A couple of things happened... aparantly Apple were testing the Software Update server internally, but didn't isolate it from the outside world... so some people aparantly 'found' the update and others didn't.

The update has been posted now both as a downloadable file, or as a Software Update. Get it at;
