i just recieved a brand new 1.5 GHz 15" PowerBook, and the hard drive is very whiney. my previous 1.25 and the 1.5 i was borrowing from work didn't have this issue. the drive is a fujitsu, and i believe the previous machines had toshiba drives, if this makes a difference. has anyone else noticed this? i think i'll call apple about it, as it is VERY irrirating, but i'm afraid they'll tell me to go to hell, considering this is the second replacement machine they've sent me in 2 years due to lemons i've bought. thanks.

Mine has a Toshiba 5400rpm which makes a high-pitched whine, so it's not confined to the Fujitsu. Like you, I find it very irritating but I don't know whether apple will be prepared to do anything about it. Be interested to hear how you get on.
