Steve increased the price of all Macs by $43.00 so he could get paid the largest bonus of ANY executive so far this year. I hope the extra money was worth it.
Go Steve!!
Go MOT!!!

With the economy hurting as bad as it is in the U.S. I'm really surprised anyone would raise prices on anything.
Can I get a big round of applause for: "The rich get richer and the poor get poorer" ?
Okay I'm ranting, sorry.

Mr. Steven Paul Jobs could do so much more for the whole computing community if he were a little more open (-source) and collaborative!

Main premise: I hereby suggest the possibility that fritzair has, in fact, made this up.
supporting fact: prices at apple.com are NOT 43 dollars more expensive.
supporting opinion: That's not Steve's style.
conclusion: I shan't believe this w/o proof.

The companies made the grade, BusinessWeek said, for reasons like granting hefty compensation packages to flailing CEOs, having too many company insiders as members, and failing to notice or stop abuses that were happening under their noses.
http://www.erieri.com/index.cfm?Fuse...ssReleaseID=78:
The highest paid exec for the most recent survey period was Steven Jobs, CEO, Apple Computer. He received no salary but was given a $43,511,534 bonus.
http://news.zdnet.co.uk/story/0,,t300-s2101729,00.html:
In Apple's fiscal year 2000, for instance, the company decided to give Jobs a Gulfstream V jet worth $43.5m, as well as $40.5m to pay for the taxes and other costs associated with granting the plane. Apple's board of directors voted to award the plane to Jobs in December 1999, but it was only delivered in fiscal 2001 and thus wasn't counted in his compensation until then, according to the SEC filing.
Jobs magic number seems to be $43.5 million for both FY2001 and FY2002. Though if you want to look at the bright side they did cut his compensation almost in half from FY2001 to FY2002. These are after all tough times.
For you conspiracy theorists, ERI is located in Redmond, so go to town. And the title of thread is a little misleading; perhaps it should read Apple maintains high prices to cover CEO compensation.

i will admit that steve's $1 a year salary is misleading but fritzair couldnt construct a non-attack agruement to save his life therefore he is a troll... he was the one last month that started the tread "i love macs because...." and then his response was 'they cost more' he is a troll plain and simply and he is an annoying one at that

If the numbers for compensation are correct, it is an issue as they are obscene. Jobs may be responsible for keeping Apple alive, but no one deserves that much money in compensation.
Calling the guy who started the thread a troll doesn't respond to the issue at hand--but then again neither does posting to this BBS . Does Jobs deserve $43 million in pay?

There seem to be a number of posts lately about how expensive Macs are (I'm thinking also of the perpetually out-of-touch guy). While it is true that you can build your own PC for about half the price, Mac prices have been coming down steadily since 1984.
I'm about to get a Dual G for about $2,500.
The machine it is replacing is a 400MHz B&W I paid $3,300 for in early '99. The desktops I've owned before then were $3,500 and up. My first Mac, an SE/30, I had to buy used because I couldn't afford the $5,000 price tag.
For even more perspective, take a look at the IIfx with its blazing 40Mhz processor. It was "the" graphics machine of its day (early 90's) and went for $10,000 & up.

A brand new 9600 was $10,000. But then again, it slaughtered absolutely every other desktop on the market and probably deserved a $10,000 price tag that that time.

Who the hell are you (we) to say what he deserves? What exactly does "deserve" mean in this context? I personally think it is nobodies damn business how much a CEO makes. How many THOUSANDS of employees and stockholders does he effect with his decisions? If the board thinks he deserves that much, so be it.

According to Edgar Online, Apple reported revenues of $1.4 billion for Q3 of FY2002, with a net profit of $32 million and a pre-tax income of $42 million. This makes Jobs reported bonus 25% of Q3 gross revenues, and $10 million more than net income and approximately equal to pre-tax profit. There's your context, you little fanboy.
Kinda high for a company whose stock is again at a year-low of approx $15/share. If you owned Apple stock, you should be questioning the sanity of the BoD.

Does posting factual information that shows Apple in a bad light make you a 'troll'?

Soooo? You point is? So YOU think he makes too much, big deal. Who the hell are you to judge? I'm no fanboy you class-envying little dolt. I feel this way about ANY company. Plus, let's face it NOT ONE OF YOU would turn it down. NOT ONE.
As far as their stock goes, it has been undervalued for years, for other reasons.

However, who are we to say it is obscene? What do you suggest be done? Why should you care? Do you think his pay is somehow taking away your livelihood? It's not.
