Oh my christ I feel sorry for Vassell. The poor poor man. But what a game! What a game! That is one of the best games I have even seen. It was just bad luck for England. They deserved as much to win as Portugal did. The difference without Rooney is huge.

I really think it became a boring game after Rooney left. Only turned interesting when it went in to extra time. Unlucky England but Portugal played better overall. They deserved the win.

I'm so drained... If England had won it would have ruined my evening. As it is, if Portugal makes it to the final, they're winning.

England played like chumps, sitting back on defense the whole game. They deserved to lose (although they made up for it at the very end). Beckham makes his, England wins. Think about.....

The keeper stops the penalty shot then shoots. That's pretty gutsy

Bye bye England.

IMO Scholes should never have come off. He's the one who strings passes together with the other midfielders (and as such keeps possession). Oh well, not many big teams left to challenge France .

So, i'm officially declaring my support for Holland!

Come on RUUUUUDDDD!

Fcking ref!!!! It was no foul when the brits scored!!!

Fcking Beckham!!!!! Learn to take a "regular" penalty and stop posing for the cameras!!!!

Fcking Sven(and you call yourself a Swede)!!!!! You don't take Gerrard off!!!! And you never start defending a 1-0 after 5 minutes!!!!

^^^^^ biggest mistakes in the game.

I can only hope the Czech finish their game, and that the Swedes show Sven how Swedes plays football!!!!

errr...sorry, yes, it was. the rules clearly state that you can't block/impede the goalie in the 5m zone. that's exactly what terry, i believe it was, did.

doesn't matter though. portugal had enough chances in the first half alone to put away the game securely.

awesome goal by rui costa too. i can't believe beckham missed that penalty....

The English press is already claiming that the ref was supporting the Portuguese. I've just watched the back camera and Nevil (or whoever it was definitely had his arm on the goalie's shoulder). That is bad. I really dislike the English press.

Terry didn't move. He's allowed to do that. He stood still and Ricardo ran into him. That is Ricardo's fault and not Terry's.

I was supporting Portugal, but the English played so damn well, and that without Rooney, that they deserved as much as the Portuguese to win.

But, again, what a game!

He had his arm on the goalie's shoulder. I watched the playback from the back camera, and he defeinitely did, and both Beckenbauer and the Austrian commentator agreed on that.

Who wants to be David Beckham right now? Sucked in Spain, blew his penalty kick (that was the difference), has an ugly ass tattoo on his neck, a stupid bimbo for a wife, a kid who's going to hate him for the name Brooklyn....

Am I missing anything?

theo: I saw that too, but that wasn't a foul. He barely touched him and Ricardo just continued the south European tradition of playing unfair and crying for fouls whenever they get the chance. Did you notice how they fell like leaves in the autumn in the England penalty box? Never did they get the yellow card for that.

phoenix: you are allowed to stand still wherever you want. That ain't blocking anyone.

But England got what it deserved for trying to defend a 0-1 after 5 minutes. Idiots It's time for Sven to go back to Italy where that might actually work.

Beckham and Gerrard were the worst players on the field, they sat so deep we couldn't get forward and without Rooney to hold the ball up it was amazing that the defense held on for so long.

Owen's finish was sublime, Ashley Cole, Sol Campbell in fact the entire back four were superb.

Sol's goal should have stood, the Linesman gave it, the Ref who could not see it over ruled him. Terry jumped, Sol jumped and Ricardo fell to the floor because he failed to go up first.

Once again we go out in the most painful way possible, robbed by the Ref but ultimately let down by key players.

Damn.

Beckham son, you are a tosser. And everyone blaming Varsell and whatnot. Beckham is the figure of failure with his "oh look at me" tatoos. I bet while Becks was doing his "art on the neck" Zidane was practising freekicks.

He barely touched him my arse. watch the playback, if you can, especially from one of the back cameras, and you'll see he had his hand on the goalie's shoulder pushing down. Stop acting like an Italian.

Watch the playback, if you can, especially from one of the back cameras, and you'll see Terry had his hand on the goalie's shoulder pushing down. Stop acting like an Italian. It happens. If that had been the other way round with James being pushed down by Gomes, you would not be complaining.

As for Beckham's miss, you people are being fuking hard on him. The Portuguese also missed one. It happens in sport and the English played fantastically and it was just bad luck that due to one penalty shot (Vassell's) that got stopped, they lost.

I've been watching it now again and again. He jumps straight up, he jumps before the goalie and that is no foul. He barely touches him.

Just a ridiculous decision by the ref. And how could he see that? He went with his gut instinct and he's not allowed to do that.

But like I said, England got what they deserved for trying to defend a 0-1 for 85 minutes. And taking out Gerrard was a huge mistake. The area in front of the central defence got wide open for Portugal.

That sentence of yours proves that there was now foul! If he stood there for two seconds it isn't a foul. The goalie isn't allowed to just run into any attacker and get a foul.

Controversial calls are always going to happen. But England got beat dozing, while it should've attacked more.

They're first goal was more a stupid error by Deco, and it was beautiful to see Portugal overcome that.

When Holland kicks Sweden's butt, I am going to laugh at you just because you're acting like an Italian. Tough sht, England lost, and I don't think they played as badly as you claim. Tomorrow France could lose and I am not going to make ten posts afterwards about some ref decision. Refs are human too, and make jsut as many mistakes as the players do. If England felt so strongly about that point, they would already have lodged a complaint with UEFA. As it happens, they haven't.

He didn't block him because he stood still. The only movement by him was when he jumped right up. That is no foul. He simply out-jumped Ricardo.

I know they make mistakes. But that wasn't a foul and it cost England.

But if you didn't read what I've said a couple of times. England deserved it for trying to defend a 0-1 for 85 minutes.
