It seems like he can just slap or strum the strings and get nice sounds. He must be using an open tuning, probably G?

Yeah, I noticed the same thing, probably because I usually have my guitar tuned to open-G most of the time. Don't know if it is that particular tuning for sure though; I'm not a guitarist - I completely suck, and play a few times a week at best - but I just love the sound of that tuning. Plus, Jeff Buckley's "Last Goodbye" is in open-G, and, well...damn. That's one gorgeous song.

Saw a guy perform in a Flagstaff coffeehouse in that style. He had recorded several albums.

Very cool. Love the sound he gets out of that style and tune. There's something very free and open about that style of play. I totally dig it.
