No, and I think our actions indirect and direct are causing too many species to come to the precipice of extinction. Kind of sad.

Shoot, I'd eat anything into extinction if I was hungry enough. Humans included.

i've heard from a very good source that the face cheeks of humans, with certain edible mushrooms in the recipe, makes a great dish. YUM!

Praised by chefs around the world and devoured by many a celebrity, the rare trout of Lake Ohrid still graces menus in many Macedonian restaurants, despite being on the edge of extinction.
The "Ohrid trout," or Salmo letnica by its scientific name, was identified as unique in 1924, but locals prefer to brand it as "ancient" since its closest species is only found in fossils.

[...]

After a series of warnings by international experts, Macedonia finally banned commercial fishing of this fish in 2005.

But scientists say the measure is not enough to prevent the trout from being wiped out, as the fish -- which can weigh up to 11 kilograms (24 pounds) -- needs seven years to reach just one kilogram.

Two years since the ban came into force, the biggest threat to its survival remains fishermen lured by huge profits made by selling the trout, which is renowned for its delectable taste and tender texture.

Ljupco Patce, whose restaurant, Dalga, in the heart of old town of Ohrid attracts dozens of tourists every day, made no bones about the fact that it remains on his menu.

"It's the trademark of Ohrid and it would be a shame not to have it," said Patce, as waiters milled around serving customers the sought-after dish.

Among the trout's high-profile diners have been late Yugoslav dictator Tito, who insisted on having it served to him at least once a month, and foreign dignitaries like Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands.

"We buy it from fishermen from Albania, but also here for 10 euros (13 dollars) per kilo and sell it for almost 30 euros in restaurants," he said.
They say it is well known to be endangered but that it is delicious. Is 30 Euros considered expensive for fish in Eastern European restaurants?

sure I would, I'm used to eating all kinds of good dishes in my world travels, you don't really think I should be expected to give up my luxuries that I am used to do you? My turisting luxuries shouldn't be taken away because I worked hard for them.

Besides what does the fish do for me, if it is not good to eat?

I thought it went without saying that I was saying it is probably well known in THAT neck of the woods and to those planning a vacation there and to gourmands and to patrons of that restaurant and to the hoteliers and innkeepers of the area and to the restaurant staff.

Well, I mean, It's a trout. And apparently it tastes REALLY good.
Will the world really be a worse place if we just eat it?

Well, I think of it being like files in your computer's OS. They are all there for a reason. You remove any of them at your own risk.

Neven know. Maybe that species of trout is the only species that eats a certain type of biting fly, which could then overpopulate, become infected with some deadly disease and transmit it to humans, causing the extinction of our species.

Or maybe not....

Google disappearing hive syndrome for an example on what can go wrong for us humans when just one species is under threat.

Being at the top of the food chain means that we have responsibility for the entire chain.

But if you eat it into extinction, then your grandchildren will never be able to taste it.
You heartless beast.
