It'll go well with my zubaz pants and Jim McMahon sunglasses.

Edit: Political? It's possible I guess.

I don't think I could have come up with something more aggressively horrible if I tried. I think the "London" randomly thrown into the 2 makes it even more amateurish than it would otherwise be, but I'm not sure that's even possible.

Anybody remember the mascot for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics? It was horrible.

Izzy, Mascot of the 1996 Olympic Games

This London logo is sad. Glad it's not American.

A designer, I'm disappointed I didn't even see that those were supposed to be numbers.

By the same token, that is so bad, I can't feel too much guilt.

Yes, the numbers don't stand out, but then, why are they even important? Is the fact that it is in 2012 the most salient thing that we want to communicate in this log? For that matter, what are we trying to communicate?

I think it is clear and concise. The logo expresses itself perfectly:

the first one in the article "alternatives" is quite nice, but probably not EDGY and YOUNG-PERSON SKEWING enough for them. Which is what they were aiming for... I had no idea those were even numbers. Rumor's right. The eighties called, they want their colors and their wacky shapes back.

BBC NEWS | Magazine | 'Oh no' logo

This is a logo which took a year to design
Who on earth takes a year to design such a crap logo? Even I could do that in a week and I have no skillz whatsoever. None.

Holy crap. WTF?!? That's the ugliest thing I've seen in a very long time.

I betcha somebody here would design a way better one for just an iPhone, ie. Less than £400k? Not only that, but less than £400.

EDIT:

This one was done for free apparently. Not perfect, but I like it better.

And this one was pretty amusing.

I guess I'm still expecting the thing to change just a bit. A friend is a principal at a large agency that was developing the pitch for one of the Stateside cities courting the last US held olympics, and you would absolutely not believe how incredibly anal the IOC is about their brand. The usage practices manual is a good three binders thick but one of the major prohibitions is using the rings mark with its associated colors until you're actually awarded the winning bid. They ended up doing huge parts of the presentation using coffee stains in the three over two style, which actually looked sort of cool.

Anyway, point is, I'd be surprised if the IOC has gotten any LESS anal so there might still be some changed comin'.

God I hope so, because that things hideous.

Eww. What were they thinking? Chicago has (or had) a beautifully designed logo (created pro bono by VSA Partners)... but the IOC regulations prevents them from using because it uses one of their trademarked symbols (the Olympic Torch). I assume that London won't be allowed to use the rings in their logo, which will make that logo absolutely useless, on top of it looking horrid.

It's not just bad, it's like a satire of bad graphic design.

Am I missing something? Maybe it's "post-modern" ?
