I found the desktop picture in the spymac gallery, just search for the word eyes. The app that shows the searchbox on the desktop is shadowGoogle 2.1

it's a trick where you make a folder, put an icon on it (ie your separator) add .app to the end of the name and then put it into your dock. Since it has the .app you can put it on the left side where apps go and if you click on it nothing happens since there is no application inside the folder.

Here's my new work machine an emac which somehow runs after effects 5.5 quite well

If you're talking about the last icon in the dock:

That's not an app. That's an icon to the person's hard drive.

If you're talking about the thing along the bottom:

when I do not modify my system, I can post a screenshot which has actually nothing to do with GUI customisation

If this is the consequence: then I retake my vote. I love this topic, but I have no interest in all those things, which (for me personally) won't reach Aqua in a light year.
