http://udn.com/NEWS/FINANCE/FIN4/1274613.shtml (Written in Trad. Chinese, today's news.)

The news said, Quanta Computer is going to make their first 15" tablet PC, for Apple.

"...The tablet PC that Quanta is going to make for Apple, will be the first 15" tablet PC in the market. In addition, this table PC will also come with keyboard; The source points out, this Apple notebook won't emphasize LCD/Keyboard separated design, but focus on a notebook that has pen-input function..."

You guys may see this news (in English) later in http://www.digitimes.com

Ok, it's cool and all IF it is actually true, but I really don't have the need for a tablet PC. I do have a need for a 15" laptop however. I really hope the 15" laptop remains, and I don't have to pay some kind of a premium to get a 15" laptop because it has tablet capabilities...

I'm waiting for a 15" AlBook here, and my window to buy a 15" Titanium for dirt cheap ends this week. I really hope this doesn't come to fruition.

Not to imply Apple is logical, but it seems it would have been in the Steve's best interest to announce this tablet computer back at MWSF.

It would have made people buy the existing Tibooks if they wanted a 15" laptop not wait for the mythical 15" Albook. It probably wouldn't affect 12/17" sales.

And lastly, this would be revolutionary and would need to be showcased in a Macworld type of megaevent not through an Apple store page update.

Exactly. The 15-inch PowerBook will probably be announced at CREATE in July.

Or I should change the title to "To be Confirmed"?

Anyway, these news (from Taiwan's business newspapaers) are mostly true, and could be trusted.

Yeah, but... When did we start trusting the Chinese? Or the Taiwanese for that matter. Especially the traditional ones.

"2003. year of the notebooks..."

yes it's still true. according to the article, the tablet 15" will be out in 2004 Q1.

but then we will see "2004. year of the notebooks with a pen..."

Since your PowerBook had been made by them?

Naa... Apple trusts them, not us.

I'll believe it when I see it. I don't care who says they know what and know who inside Apple. As shifty as things are anymore, disinformation seems to be priority with Steve Jobs.

And at the sametime, though......I hope to god that if a tablet were to be true, the pen recognition is far superior than any technology out there, including existing PDA's. But that's just a hope.

I can enjoy my 17" in the meantime.

Interesting Post,

I asked or suggested why the 12" was not made to be a tablet mac on the Apple msg boards. It was pulled because they strickly monitor speculative posts but I was thinking I hit close to the mark.

I changed it. It's not confirmed until it's on Apple's website, as far as I am concerned.
