Write down these three words (not very easy):

Rosetta! Rosetta! Rosetta!
then, Inkwell will reply you "Hey that's me!"

Ross etta! Rosse Na! Rosse Ma!

I cant get it to work... I even added it to my word list, but I cant get it to recognise my handwriting...

I'll admit that my handwriting is not so great, but this is nuts...

hooray for tablets!

did anyone freak out trying to close ink? i did a search for 'ink' in the finder and clicked a few things 'til it popped open, goofed around for a bit and then tried to close it. hah! no way to shut it off once you have it open. it wouldn't be a big deal if the window would minimize or not always be the top window.

you have to go to the system prefs and turn handwriting recognition off. whew!

Never really used a Newton... just wondering what the relationship is between this easter egg and the Newton.

Rosetta was the handwriting recognition software Apple created for the Newton which happened/happens to be better than pretty much anything at its time, or as some would say, better than anything out there now.

Ahh right. The only exposure to Newton technology was when my Dad borrowed an eMate for a weekend. In that time it was able to learn my handwriting, something that sure impressed me at the time.

Not only that, but Newtons also had an easter egg when you wrote "Rosetta! Rosetta! Rosetta!"

If you want to take a look at the Ink stuff and you don't have a graphics card then go to /System/Library/Components/Ink.component/Contents/SharedSupport/ and then load InkServer. This will let you see what the Ink stuff is like but unfortunately not use it.

The only other easter egg from the newton era was why you wrote "egg frekles" and you would see a comic strip.

Would be kewl if something like that were still present.

The newton had loads of easter eggs, IIRC. There was one that located Area 51 on the map, and changed all your icons to aliens. The US government went after them for that one, so they took it out.

What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.

And let's not forget "Find Elvis", or in newer Newts "Find Titanic".

Download the drivers from Wacom.
Once you have it installed ink will show up in the System Preferences.
Nothing to see, move along.

IIRC, two years ago Synaptics was working on a project along those lines...When finished, it would enable all Synaptics touchpad/trackpad users to digitally sign documents using the 'pad, and write in their own handwriting as software permitted...

The hardware is already there. Why cannot we use it? Should we look at a conspiracy by Wacom and Apple and Synaptics? Mulder, where are you?

Oh, i Really miss my Newton. It was bulky and to find software was like looking for a needle in a haystack...but I loved it. Still, in 2002, the UI is second to none. Not bad for a defunct machine, eh?

As to the handwriting recognition comments made previously, I had read something that stuck to my mind:
Rosetta learned YOUR writing style, but you learned Grafitti's writing style...

Someone care to comment on the handwriting recognition engine in Ink? Especially someone who used Newton before...please?
