Inevitable. A niche product with an enthusiastic fan base can support a niche magazine. In an era when all the major outlets get all the same (and even better) scoops (plus the entire print media thing) Macworld was doomed.

It's MacLife now, rebranded in 2006. They had monthly CDs full of demos and shareware, which was great since my parents never had internet access.

If you're talking about that weird Christmas greeting, that was MacUpdate, a software repository that has nothing at all to do with any of the major monthly Mac publications.

That happened in 1998. MacAddict continued shipping CDs through January of 2007, archives of the CDs can be found at the Internet Archive.
