I have a rev A 12in pbook with the 868mhz G4 and i was wondering if the 1gb PC2700 ram sticks are compatible with this model. I know the specs say that the max ram capability is 640mb but i was wondering if anyone has put anything bigger in them and has worked. I still love my pbook and have no need to upgrade as of yet but considering how cheap ram is these days i would like for my pbook to have more ram. I have it already maxed at the advertised 640mb.

They'll work fine. They just aren't supported by Apple.

reason 640mb was max, was because 1gb sticks weren't used in any apple computers then....dont even know if there was a 1gb stick being made back then. but it'll work just fine...don't think twice about, my cuz just upped his rev a 17" to 2gb although his manual said he could only take it to 1gb.
NOW YOU SEE ME! 2.4 MBP and 2.0 MBP (running ubuntu)

Ahh ok thanks and also if I buy pc2700 ram the pbook will just downclock it to 2100 just fine or is it better to just go ahead and buy the pc2100? Reason I ask is because pc2700 is actually cheaper than pc2100.

Get the pc2700. If you upgrade, you can use the ram for your new Powerbook. A gig of pc2700 works great in the rev A's. Toss in a bigger drive and RPC-1 the superdrive and you'll be set.

What do you mean toss in a bigger drive? You mean, install a new 5400rpm internal 100GB hard drive?

I'm thinking of doing that because I've recently decided that I'm going to keep this PB for a while longer. It's almost 2 years old now, and I'm gonna keep it for another 2 years or more.

I couldn't install it myself. How much would it cost for a professional to install a hard drive in the 12in PB? I do not have any Applecare and my warranty has expired.

Did all of the installations myself. It's really not as difficult as it seemed. Head over to pbfixit.com and print out the how-to guides for your model. Get a good set of precision screwdrivers, set everything on a towel, get an ice tray to keep the screws organized, and go for it!
