My mother IM'ed me with a problem she is having burning a CD in Toast 5.

When she tries in ANY mode to burn a CD the following error pops up.

Code:
drive reported an error: Sense Key=medium error, sense code=OXOC write error
She's using a G4 Tower (ugly Graphite one) and an external CD-R (it says mitsubishi cdrw 4x on the drive)

Any ideas? Need more information?

hmmm...
delete prefs?
reinstall toast?

also might be worth trying a cd cleaner (like those ones with a little brush on the cd...)

In addition to cleaning the burner, is the system doing anything else but the burn? What OS? Does she have Toast configured for Buffer Underrun protection when she burns? Maybe she could increase the size of the RAM cache in Preferences. Also, she should make sure she has at least a GB of free space on the HD.

These things usually resolve all my problems burning. I haven't tested a setup like that but can she burn from the Finder or iTunes successfully?
