I just wanted to wish everyone a merry Christmas. I'm really glad I can take a week off work and I hope you can get some rest as well.

I'll spend some time at my parents' place before I head out to Austria to go skiing over New Year, yay!

What are you doing over the holidays?
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

We were going to head off to a friends' place in Austria for the New Year, but the swine flu and the fact that I've had to spend the last two weeks in the comfort of my blankets thoroughly smothered any plans of going anywhere.

All I wish for is the strength to be able to take a walk outside before the snow completely vanishes.

Not to be a downer about it: I'm feeling a lot better already, and actually spent a half hour looking at picture books with my daughter earlier. Another couple weeks and I'll be up and functioning.

Just a note: you know all those conspiracy nuts with the "flu vaccination is just a big pharma plot"?

**** them.

No, seriously: **** them all.

x'mas to me can be summed up as follow:

- every restaurant tries to sell overpriced set dinners.
- traffic jam everywhere.
- lots of gift wrapping thus wasted paper. copenhagen my ass.
- people celebrate the birth of jesus with the symbol of a murdering weapon displayed everywhere.

Merry Christmas to everyone. This is our first Christmas "alone" since our son moved out on his own. It's also the first one in a long time that I am not on school break. So my wife and I are working through this couple of weeks (we're both in health care), but we'll have plenty of time together, and with friends. It'll be nice.

I'm working a 1/2 day today (X-Mas Eve) and then my boss is taking the office out for a Beer.

Afterwards I'll head up to my grandmothers house.

We'll go the the Christmas service at the Baptist church and then hunker down for the night.

Tomorrow I'll drive all over Western NH, and Eastern VT visiting friends and family.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY!
What, me worry?

Happy Holidays (it's the agnostic in me ).

I worked today, and will be spending tomorrow with my two grown daughters, and assorted family members, which is great. Back to the grind on Saturday.

That's not influenza. That's an influenzal infection, a.k.a. "common cold", a.k.a. "oh, he's got the flu."

For reference, last year's (2008/2009) "real" influenza wave had a survival rate of 40%.

My uncle had it, survived, and was given an estimated full recovery time of about three YEARS. He is now slowly feeling up to snuff again. But he'll probably have to deal with the diabetes as long as he lives.

as i remember, Japan and Hong Kong was ranked no. 1 and 2 for averaged life expectancy.

this winter, the Hong Kong government prepared some 2 million shots for influenza (the "real" thing) but only 20,000 people out of a population os 7 million turned up for the shots in the first week.

Hong Kong is a very dense city. We will see how it goes. We don't have a culture of taking drugs.

I got the "seasonal" flu shot in early December when I started a new job at a hospital. I skipped the H1N1, at the time because I didn't have a spare arm to get the shot in. I may reconsider that next week-I hate being sick and I don't yet have any sick time saved up, so I can't afford to be sick anyway.
