What did I miss?
For those of you who remember me, I trolled around here about 2 1/2 years go.
Since then got married, moved to LA, working as a PHP/JS/HTML5 Dev and designer.
What's new? Dakar still around? Lammy? Oisin? Turtle? Still post here?

Rob was banned again, so the board is a bit less car connoisseur. But Dakar, Laminar, Oisín (has been promoted to Moderator) and Turtle are still around, missing any of them would be a hit below the waterline. Welcome back.

I was allowed back after a year+ ban, which is very nice of the admins. I think I've been behaving well since then.

Johannesburg to LA is quite a shift. Different hemisphere X 2, and the "culture" has to have been a big change too. That's adaptability!
Things are going fairly smoothly here. Less drama at the moment, but most of the usual gang are still around and pretty much the same as they/we have always been.
Still have that Honda bike? Riding in Los Angeles has to be very different from anywhere in South Africa.

Yeah, LA is definitely different from Johannesburg. My first few months here I though "Damn, the US Sucks" but then I went on a trip to San Fran and Big Bear and actually fell in love with Cali. And then with In 'n Out.
No longer have a bike, though with the parking around here I am definitely thinking of getting one. I am not used to walking 3 blocks to my car every day I go home from work.

You live in LA and you're going to In 'n Out? For shame.
Two places you need to go: Tommy's Hamburgers and Canter's Deli.

Shake Shack just came to DC and I have to say it is superior to both (though more expensive).

Got Five Guys near me, but In n Out is only in the Dallas area, so I haven't been able to compare. Looking forward to it though.

Haven't availed myself of Five Guys yet... Gotta try it sometime.
I can't believe I just wrote that.
The first time I saw Jack-In-The-Box I really had a good laugh at the name. What is it with burger places and innuendoes in this country?

If I was concerned about a wallet friendly burger I'd just go to McDonalds or something, but I don't eat that shit. When I want a good burger, I want a good burger.

Eeew. I don't think I can ever eat one of their burgers again (which is not a big problem since there aren't any in my area).
My vote - In 'n' Out > Five Guys, though both are very good.

That reminds me of a somewhat indecent and dated joke:
What is the similarity between Michael Jackson and McDonalds? They both like putting 40 year old meat between 10 years old buns.
Also, what is the similarity between Michael Jackson and Jack Daniels? They both come in tots.

No idea what part of LA you are in but there are lots of good eats in LA/OC. And FYI In 'N Out is better than Five Guys.

Hollywood, not by choice.
Some good party time places, though. I like that fact that no under-21's can drink. Makes the annoying 17-year-old-drunk-girls at clubs that I am used to turn into 20-year-old-annoying-drunk girls; which I guess is slightly more tolerable.

The amazing thing about that thread is that there is another Frasier reference by Doofy less than 10 posts in. This thing runs deep.

That's an entertaining thread. One, wonders, calverson, how did you transition from that state to that of a happily married man? How long did it take? And how/when did you know your now-wife was more than just the average attractive woman waiting to be conquered in your eyes?

Another?
I mention Frasier twice in five years and all of a sudden "this thing runs deep"?

I guess I met the right person. I guess I knew when we started dating and I wasn't all freaked out by commitment issues and worried about meeting someone better. The year we were dating, the year we were engaged, it all felt right. And so did getting married – it just felt right. So I went with it.
Most of my friends have settled down with a longtime girlfriend or got engaged or gotten married, so that helped, too.

Have you experienced drunken teenage girls in limos hurling their brains out all over Sunset yet? It's quite the spectacle at around midnight.
