i use os 10.4.6

how do i set the Network preferences to autosensing

and how do i refresh the DHCP lease

?

i'm looking for a fools click-by-click guide - i cant seem to find where to click - i was assuming the autosensing was in system prefs>network, but i can't find it.
neither seem to show up when i do a file>find either.

(i dont know what a dhcp lease is, but
im trying to set up a usb-ethernet adaptor - i was told to do the above after ive installed the driver)
(got a malfunctioning ethernet port)

(wasnt sure whether to put this into the 'network' forum or 'OSX' - i plumped for here since its a detail within the operating system, but my apols if i posted in wrong place)

in advance, thanks.

1. Unless you changed it, the interface is already set to autonegotiate.

2. Refreshing DHCP: Go to System Preferences -> Network -> double-click the network interface in question -> select the TCP/IP tab, if not already selected -> press Renew DHCP Lease.
