Does .hidden still exist in Tiger?

Hello,
I just did a nice fresh clean install of tiger, and installed DarwinPorts. /opt is now visible in the finder, and I'm curious how to hide that. In the past, these were in /.hidden, but that file doesn't seem to exist anywhere.
Anyone know what criteria Tiger uses to hide directories? Is it just the invisible attribute?

Good question, I'm not sure what has been done with /.hidden... Maybe someone on Mac OS X hints [macosxhints.com] will post something on this...

Someone (on a different board) pointed out to me that Apple seems to now be using the invisible attribute in HFS (which can be verified using mdls). I used SetFile from the Developer tools to set the invisible attribute on /opt, relaunched the finder, and voila, no more /opt in the finder.

If Tiger does away with .hidden, doesn't that make all objects hidden in that manner visible?

Yes, exactly. So set the invisible flag instead.
