I checked the Apple Store Australia prices:

20Gb: A$499 (was A$599)
40Gb: A$649 (was A$799)

still expensive compare to US prices (effectively exchange rate A$1 ~=US$0.60; current exchange according OS X calculator A$1 =US$0.70030)

TODAY! It says on the ipod page. you can buy it online .. or for instant gratification, go into a apple store!

I am having a problem deciding between the 20 and the 40gb. only 100 bux difference, and if u subtract 40 bux for the remote (which i would like to have) it's double the harddrive space for sixty bucks

then there's the 40 dollar dock ...

then there's the 40 dollar case (which i can do without because i'd want a cheaper case that probly looked/functioned better.

the dock isnt needed .. but hey .. why complain .. i have too many cords all over my desk! .

i think i will end up with the forty just because it's so financially worth it ... hmm should i get it engraved? how's the return/repair warantee work on a engraved ipod? .. i hope the forty isnt too heavy .. guess i'll have to go to the apple store n see in person. i like the clean look of the 3g .. n the no moving parts (besides harddrive) but i also remember hating the touch buttons and liking the mini's click wheel. i also like all white over this white n gray but .. oh well .. i had to keep refreshing their page to see it because they were changing the layout of the page to show the new ipods

I have an iTrip and an italk for my 3rd Gen 40 GB. I've just ordered the 4th Gen 40 GB but it's unclear to me whether they will fit or if I will have to buy new units.

Anybody notice? The Dock is different from the 3G iPod Dock (M9130G/A). From the iPod Dock description page, it says "Does not support iPod mini or new iPod with Click Wheel (20GB or 40GB). For an iPod Dock accessory kit for iPod with Click Wheel, use M9602G/A iPod Dock kit."

I wonder what's changed. So all the 3G iPod owner can't share the Dock with 4G owner or vice versa.

I don't feel too compelled to trade up from my 15 3G...yet. Although in about 100 songs, I might be feeling the squeeze.

Do you guys think there's any possibility that the firmware for the 3Gs could be updated to include some of the features of the 4G, particularly 1-click shuffle and adjustable audible speeds??

I think there was an interview on the The Mac Observer where Jozwiak (sp?) said their were differences in the hardware with 4G. The 3G won't be able to upgrade for some new features.

Click the following link for lots of pix of the new 4g ipod compared to the older ipods and even a mini .. the new ipod is almost as thin as the ipod mini!
http://www.pcmag.com/slideshow/0,239...=131820,00.asp

can someone tell me if that's a 40 or a 15? (the 3 g compared to the 4g ipod. if that's not a 40 but a 15 ... wow .. it's major shrinkage...)

That must be comparing an old 40 to a new 20. No way is that difference only a millimeter.

Has anyone noticed how neither of the iPods now come with the remote anymore according to the Apple Store page? If I'm reading this correctly, if I want an iPod with a remote and the in-ear buds, I'd have to buy the iPod ($299.00 or $399.00) + In-Ear Headphones ($39.00) + iPod Remote & Earphones ($39.00) = $377.00 or $499.00 and you end up with an iPod with 3 pairs of earphones. I hope I'm reading this wrong, someone please enlighten me.

and if i am thinking clearly .. the in ear earphones are full length ... wit a full length remote .. can someone say twist tie, rubber band, or knotted up lengths of cord?

Just ordered the 4th Gen ipod and i'm in the UK.

Might sound a silly question, but Can I use the included AC adapter overseas with a bog standard travel plug adapter you might buy from tescos!?

Or do i need the real mcoy from the apple site?

Cheers, R

you should get the world adapter kit from apple. You just replace the UK plug with the US plug on the brick and you'll have the exact same think you would get if you bought an iPod in the UK. Apple makes their adapters world compatible so they just need the right plug on them.
