They were only talking about the counterattack. They put ships up there to hit the machines when they came through, but someone hit an EMP, and the ships were disabled. The machines destroyed them all.
Hence, massacre.

Here's one for you guys:
What the hell was Trinity thinking when she jumped out of the 52nd floor window?!?! Did she expect to live? Was she committing suicide? Was she .... like... wtF?! OH NO! AGENTS! I'LL JUMP TO MY DEATH!
And I'll just ignore the fact that the speed neo was going and how he 'caught' her would have broken all the bones in her body, but whatever.

Correct. In Final Flight of the Osiris, the chick jumps off a building and does a bunch of acrobatics, only to land on the ground unscathed. Some pretty cool **** can happen in the matrix.

Actually if you listen, you realize she hears Neo take off. He makes a near sonic boom when he flies, therefore she thinks, ok well here's my last chance.
I think if Neo can bring Trin back to life he can avoid breaking some bones.

Ah yes the Merovingian. The circa 500 AD Frankish kings who welded together the Franks, the remnants of the Gauls and the over-run Roman remnants of the Roman Empire and who are today regarded as the first kings of the French [aka cheese eating surrender monkeys]. Perhaps this character will be in some way connected with a fusion of humans, computer constructs and human/computer hybrids [?cyborgs]. We have seen good humans. bad humans and certainly lots of bad computer constructs - perhaps good computer constructs are around some where.
