I know it should, but I had a 12 page ms ppt file that I wanted to save as .pdf then to disk to take to a printer and it didn't

it saved as .pdf ok, but then when I opened that file in preview or acrobat, all I got was garbled text.

help!

To be honest the 'Print to PDF' Pdf's are damb poor. They have enough quirks for print shops to have problems outputing from them (I think it saves all bitmap images as RGB, for example).
Think of them as the OSX equivelent of Quickdraw inkjet printing.

It's a nice feature from OS X. I use it all the time in my business were I'm required to create pdf files (syndicated reports) in order to distribute information to our clients.

I don't need acrobat license; anything I need for pdf docuements are there in OS X.

It works well for me too. My laptop doesn't have direct printer access at school, so I 'Save as PDF' then print via a Windows 2000 Citrix server.

I haven't had any problems, and it's useful if the machine you need to print from doesn't have the fonts your Mac does.

I would never use it for Print production, but I do use it to save Receipts from websites, the page they show you with your order info...

Use it all the time, file size is generally pretty large though.
