Just cuz we're all Apple buds here - and given most of us depend on our creativity to make a living... (and frying brain cells isn't in our best interest)

Before you go out and buy an iPhone, or even continue using one - run a Google search on cellphones.

You may find that you're better off separating your phone from your music/video player. If you like the iPhone, get the one without the phone.

And if you think that's just so much paranoia, and that certainly the government would "protect us" against that level of danger -

Just Google microwave, find out it's been banned in Russia since the 70s, read the scientific evidence of what it actually does to your "food"... You're liable to freak out.

Then wake up, realize we live in a capitalist system, and protect yourself.

If/when you have to use a cell phone, keep it as far away as possible - and definitely don't walk around all day with one on your person.

The iPhone is wicked cool - but if it's so cool that it causes you to keep a cellphone on you 24/7 - NOT a wise choice.

Just my 2 bits. Love that Mickey D's? Colon cancer anyone?

It's absolutely FRIGHTENING how little we know.

Corporate controlled politicians, corporate controlled media - capitalist system not so good when conflicts arise

Me - I'm packing off to Iraq with a microwave and a new iPhone No reason to fear WMDs when they're all around us every day.

My advice - limit cellphone usage to making/receiving calls when land lines are unavailable.

As long as that iPhone is "on", you're basically golfing in a thunderstorm.

you're brainwashed, and your theories are crap.

Also, I've been to Russia, and they sell and use microwaves everywhere.

lowbuzz = High Noize.

(also, most people I know, including myself, have their cellphone with them FAR more than their iPod)

I bet he or another n00b are going to post back with a Great New Device that will solve all the microwave and iPod cancer-causing waves. A great new wave blocker or wave absorber.

Actually, I didn't know jack about any of it - the fiancee is a nutritionisit/health nut.

She showed me enough to freak me out.

Also, for $99, I can sell you - now this is a REVOLUTIONARY device (applause) - are you ready? I said ARE YOU READY? (wild applause).

Yes, it's your own personal Brooklyn Bridge, which ALSO acts as a microwave absorber.

Act now.

And I don't care what you do - just thought it'd be nice to offer the info. Do the research, make up your own mind.

But at least there's the info, worthless or not. I'm skeptical by nature, so if I were you, I wouldn't trust me OR the government.

But as far as I know, if the iPhone is "on", it's a cellphone - whether you're making calls or not. So you're jamming to your music... just sounds like a bad idea to me.

You're using Google as an authoritative source for scientific research?

Do you ask your grocery clerk for investment advice?

To choose doubt as a philosophy of life is akin to choosing immobility as a means of transportation.

On microwaves being banned in Russia - first hit for Google:

Microwave Cooking is Killing You!

Never been there myself. Oh, the ban was lifted after perestroika. My bad.

Yeah, she's a bit nutty -

On using Google for research - no, I trust the corporate media to help me make all my decisions.

Internet bad, corporate media good. Just ask them.

Tip for an even better life - don't believe anything. Someone's always selling something

It'll be nice when the internet gets past the stage of being the world's largest shopping/porno mall and serves some useful purpose.

But hey - at least an opposing viewpoint can be found, and we can even have these silly debates.

Cell Phones! Serious Health Risk? or Harmless? Why do you feel how you do & how do you back it up? - Yahoo! Answers

Please let me know whether or not to even READ that - I can't discern for myself.

Let's shut down macnn and go back to reading MacWorld. The internet's a bunch of crap.

Btw, ColdWarrior - how would you rate the national media, scale of 1 to 10, on their coverage of the communist threat?

On this crazy internet thing, I read that Russia and China are getting pretty tight lately.

But wouldn't it best to just concentrate on Iraq - cuz it's like Vietnam - and man... those were the glory days for the "liberal" media. Exposing Nixon, spitting on our soldiers in Vietnam.

Providing misinformation on Iraq seems to be more inline with their agenda than worrying about any sleeping bears

I can't wait to call President Hillary on my iPhone and bring her some microwaved cookies, baked from her own special recipe.

you're hopeless if you believe this CancerPod stuff. Also, I don't know what more I can say about microwaves and Russia. Been there. Not banned.

Also, I've researched your other posts. You seem to be trending towards making wide-ranging claims of product problems. And you brought up the microwave-banned lie in another thread.

If this is him on low buzz, I'd hate to see him post when he's *really* high.

In order to look even *slightly* less of a complete moron, you might try at least MINIMAL research.

iPhone has an airplane mode.

Uhm... I didn't lie - it was banned - the ban was lifted after perestroika.

And pharmaceuticals were pushing psychotropics on adolescents - and parents were buying them up in droves to deal with their "problem" children. Until that finally got banned - a little too late for all those kids, though.

So anyway - you keep loving on your cellphone, I won't - we'll all check back in 20 years, see who wins the debate.

Glad to hear iPhone has an airplane mode - I might buy one then. Thanks for the info.

So my new advice - buy an iPhone, keep it in airplane mode unless you're making a call

Can I change the topic to iPhone=CancerPod (unless in airplane mode)?

Cuz I REALLY like the bit where you can sort through your voicemail, and the "internet in your pocket" is a pretty cool sales tool (for my biz anyway).

Oh, on the other stuff:

1) Nope, not high. Don't even smoke pot - though I think it should be legalized - cuz I'd rather someone sit at home stoned rather than go out, get drunk, come home and beat their wife and kids.

2) My trust in corporations has gone seriously downhill - particularly since the bubble "burst" back in 2001, all my friends lost their jobs, had nothing but worthless "shares" in bankrupt corporations to show for their 100 hour work weeks. Really put a damper on things. Couple that with the fact that corporations have done nothing but screw me and everyone I know my entire life - kinda makes trusting them an issue.

3) Apple is overloaded with a zealot fan-base - so researching a new computer, I found quite a few postings reporting problems. The nice folks in the forums were kind enough to help me sort through those issues so I can buy a new Mac with reasonable confidence.

4) Recent death in the family, very young, due to cancer, with no previous history - if someone close to you dies, you might be a little more discerning, too.

Does it kill ya to rip off your blinders for a minute?

For all I care, delete all my posts and ban me from the forum - I'm wasting too much time here anyway, admittedly having a little fun while sharing some thoughts with anyone not so close-minded they reel at the concept of an alternative viewpoint.

Obviously, iPhone=CancerPod was intentionally overblown

But if someone reads it, and I'm right - then they're healthier - and the debate rages on as to who's ignorant and who's living in bliss.

Plus I can now go out and buy an iPhone and throw it in airplane mode. Very cool Thanks.

microwaves were more likely banned -- if that's even true to being with -- because of their power draw. The electric infrastructure in apartment buildings is seriously old, and it's routine for new appliances to trip the breaker, and for some to cause electrical fires.

Very clever - not as clever as "iPhone=CancerPod", but hey...

And please do ban me - I'm a tad bit OCD and I have better things to do than have fun posing silly debates in forums.

This is hardly a "technical" discussion.

Microwave ovens, because of the frequency of RF they use, ONLY add energy to water molecules, which heats them. If something has water in it (food) it gets hotter. If it doesn't (the plate) it doesn't-at least not directly from the microwave radiation.

Study after study shows that cell phones DO NOT IN ANY WAY CAUSE CANCER OF ANY KIND. REAL, hard science studies that were well built, well conducted, and rigorous. I've been involved in one way or another with managing, creating, or using RF energy since 1978; since radio frequency energy is NON-IONIZING, it CANNOT injure cells the way IONIZING energy (X-rays, gamma rays, etc.) can; the cellular structures are just too small. The only thing 2.4GHz radio signals can do to cells is heat them up (and if they're heated too much, kill them). I'm almost as sick and tired of people saying "they" don't want us to know that cell phones are rotting our brains as I am of people who drive like they are the only person on the road. It just is not true.

And I'm overstepping my usual bounds here, by closing this thread.
