I haven't seen a new post there since the end of October. I'm looking forward to the next Powerbook, and AI has been great for providing info. This is a long time to go with no new news. What's up?

There's only so much reliable information out there, and there really hasn't been any in the last month. AI refuses to make rumors up, or to post unverified information.

Feel free to visit MOSR for a daily dose of BS.

So they're not dead?
Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Yonkers can have better TV reception.

Actually I would be willing to bet all my macs that Steve slaughtered them all.

I bet he made an iMovie out of it too. Just imagine, Steve torturing them in Apple's sub levels with a steady drip of water on their heads, meanwhile Steve is holding the camcorder.

I saw that this morning. Good to see 'em twitching again.

I had an IBM subnotebook for a while that was good for its small size, but to get it that small, sacrifices had to be made. This was in the time before CD-ROM drives became ubiquitous, so the lack of one can be somewhat forgiven, but even the floppy drive was an external unit that plugged into a special port on the back of the machine. An Apple subnotebook is a good idea if it doesn't leave out USB/Firewire or some expansion bay capability (or, at least, a good CD/DVD-ROM reader.) Or Ethernet, or modem, or ... blah blah.

And I hope Apple makes them better than the VAIOs. I know a guy who had - had - one. Not only did it give him constant problems, but if you picked the thing up by the corners, it would sag and bend in the middle. Can't remember what he replaced it with, but it was even smaller.

You won't find that happening with the new Vaio's... they are extremely sturdy, and feel very well built...

I have a friend with a Vaio, not one of the sub ones. He likes it but the Windows OS is a pain. For example he bought a Firewire drive for it but can't use it because the version of Win98 he has installed does not support Firewire drives. You need Windows 98 SE or ME or something. Being on a university campus you'd think he could find it? Nope. In the end he had to sell the drive 2nd hand.

He also tried to install Linux but the sound card is not supported....

My ex-girlfriend works at a post-production place. They have a mix of G4s and NT boxes - the Avid run off the G4s, the NT boxes ued for other stuff - and wanted to add a Zip drive to the NT box.

Simple, right? Go out, buy a USB Zip drive, install the drivers and baddabing yer in business.

Except NT doesn't (or at that time didn't) support USB. Absolutely amazing. . .

NT 4.0 still does not support USB, even with Service Pack 6. Since the office I work at is just now upgrading all of their old systems from Win95 to NT 4.0, I doubt we'll see Win2k here until at least 2002.

Along those same lines, Office 97 is now being rolled out company wide. Yay.
