i have some cd's by massive attack, banco de gaia, future sound of london, orbital...and from an earlier era - tangerine dream, klaus schultze, cluster, etc etc. i rarely get more than a couple by each artist as they tend to start sounding all the same after a while.....

Some of my favorites:

plaid - not for threes. 1st album, featuring bjrk and nicolette on a few tracks; the latest one is almost as good, the stuff in between was better than most "electronica", but lame in comparison.

lb - pop artificielle. Pop songs from james brown over bowie and lennon to the stones' "angie" in totally rad digital deconstruction - one of my all-time favorite albums.

ambrosia - I only know reminiscent drive, which is some of the best chill-out/trip-hop I've ever heard. Melodic, warm, and very, very beautiful.

Massive Attack - protection and mezzanine. Buy them. Nuff said.

Nearly God - Nearly God. Collection of co-productions between Tricky (formerly of Massive Attack) and others, including Cath Coffey and bjrk. Fluctuates between hauntingly beautiful and disturbing.

Autechre - Amber. A lot of their other stuff is just sick. This is beautiful. If you like Boards of Canada, you'll like this, I think (same with ambrosia, btw).

and the obligatory godfathers of "Electronica":

Kraftwerk - everything from and including Autobahn onwards (i.e. after 1974). Magnificent. Pure. Dry. A class of their own. Unsurpassed.

Orbital are coming out with their last album in June. Very sad.

Most of the good stuff has already been mentioned. Can't say enough good things about Underworld and Orbital. FSOL, Aphex Twin, Front 242 are also very good. The Crystal Method are underrated in my opinion (except for the songs where they're trying to sound like Fatboy Slim, whom I don't particularly care for). Didn't see BT mentioned either; he's also pretty good. Both he and The Crystal Method are avowed Mac users, btw. Actually so is Underworld and many others no doubt.

Money has put me behind on the most currents. I have a list of wants as long as my arm. But a good starting point, as many of you apparently know, is Boards of Canada's Music Has The Right To Children.

Boards of Canada <- Cool site.

I know, I know, they are really good and all that, and I've never really agreed that you have to actually like the people in a band to enjoy their music, but 3D or whatever he's called and that other bloke are such spectacularly arrogant nasty w*nkers that it's really spoilt it all for me :-(
